For a pretty comprehensive book on the how the Holy Spirit is taught throughout the Bible and has been viewed throughout the history of Church, your one-stop-shop is Anthony Thiselton's The Holy Spirit: In Biblical Teaching, through the Centuries, and Today. One comment has already addressed Dr. Gordon Fee, and he is another go to scholar for doctrine related to the Spirit. Any of his books or commentaries would be good.

For more accessible material, Billy Graham actually wrote a little book on the Holy Spirit serval years ago that is pretty straightforward and helpful. Also, Francis Chan and J.D. Greear have written more recent books on the Holy Spirit.

To better understand the spiritual gifts I would recommend the works of Wayne Grudem or Sam Storms, as well as D.A. Carson's exposition of 1 Corinthians 12 -14.

If you would like a sermon series to listen to, I found this podcast helpful.

I hope that helps!

Hey, hope you're feeling well. I didn't mean to offend you and I'm sorry if I did. But I no longer think these people are sincere. Once they get big enough, everything out of their mouth becomes money and then we get things like this: https://www.amazon.com/Jerusalem-Diet-Approach-Reach-Weight/dp/1400072204

Paul said, "if I have the gift and don't have love, I am nothing". He didn't say "if the gifts are ministered out of love they are nothing." And anyone who has ever ministered a gift should've known that right off the bat, because the gifts are by the Spirit and not by the man, and sometimes they even happen when the man is just chillin. (2 Kings 13:21)

Pentecost: The Story of Us is an excellent look at Pentecostalism from a Pentecostal's viewpoint, about what makes Pentecostalism theologically distinct, from Charismatics, the Third Wave movement, and the broader cessationist Christian church.

Amos Yong has written some books about down syndrome in light of Pentecostalism but I haven't read them.

Books on Latin American Pentecostalism likely has a lot to say about social justice but I haven't read any.

For information about classical Pentecostalism check the websites for the major denominations: Assemblies of God, Church of God (Cleveland), and International Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Charismatics are a little trickier, there are charismatic Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, etc. (Look up Dennis Bennett, the first Bishop that kicked up a fuss about tongues) and a few movements that sprung up around that same time that are generally called charismatic, such as Calvary Chapel.

The Third Wave movement (sometimes known as the Signs and Wonders Movement), gets its name from imagery that claims the Spirit has been pouring out on the Church in waves since the start of the 20th century and this one was the one that returned charismatic spiritualism to the broader Evangelical church and began to make it acceptable to be a Baptist who speaks in tongues, and started to de-emphasize the role of charismatic leaders and equip the general church to seek God for miracles for the sake of evangelism. John Wimber, Jack Deere, and Paul Cain are the big names here.

I could list book recommendations one after another depending on if you want theology, history, or testimonies.

Wow, ok. I have no idea what your earlier point was now.

But, I would think it would extremely naive to the point of pride to think people did not pray for the gospel to reach beyond the Iron Curtain before you started praying.

And um, yeah, God didn't want people to live in totalitarian regimes. I asked Him, it's against his nature and His word.

On another note, lots of people died to get the Gospel into the communist block right from the beginning. Read God's Smuggler. Great book. https://www.amazon.com/Gods-Smuggler-Brother-Andrew/dp/0800796853

Since you have no conclusions to the points you brought up this thread is now pointless so unless you have any real questions,

Good day.

Miracles by Craig Keener... https://www.amazon.com/Miracles-Credibility-New-Testament-Accounts/dp/0801039525

Also, Sam Storms writes a ton on spiritual gifts... has a decent book on 'em too!
