Yeah that rust bubble in the second photo worries me. Might be better off getting the whole top repainted. Which sucks because those places don't always do the best job. You could find somewhere who will do it better and since it's just the roof it shouldn't be too bad. It won't be cheap but it should be less than $500.

Next time make sure to get those addressed right away. A little tube of touch up paint and a cheap dropper from amazon can get you great results.

I found the horn to be way too wimpy so I replaced the stock one with this PIAA pair.

I also didn't want to screw my plates straight through the front bumper or directly against the back bumper so I put on license plate brackets that I think make it look much nicer.

I took the advice from a bunch of folks on the subaruoutback.org forums and put in a new 19mm sway bar. It was a pretty easy install, but honestly I can't tell if the drive is better or it's just a placebo effect.

Then just a couple of simple quality of life things just because:

Honestly, it's cheaper and easier to use something like a Nexus 7 mounted in your car with the Android Auto app. Works exactly the same, non-invasive, and is easier to update.

Granted it's not as integrated, but it's what I have in my 2011 OB. I bought this CD player magnetic mount that holds my Nexus 7 (2013) fine. I do have T-Mobile so I tether at no extra charge to it from my phone, but this whole setup only cost the price of the mount for me and I love it.

I’ve got a Noz2Noz 36” soft crate that fits perfectly in the back. I’ve had it about 1.5 years and use it all the time. It’s awesome.

Hey sorry for the delay. Yup I bought the following (sorry its Canadian links, but you'll get the idea).

So I wound up buying a NEX 2440 off Crutchfield. So far it's working great. Should be about $600 (I'm in Canada so if you're in the states your prices will be lower.)

Here's the part list I went with ( again you may need to look up US equivalents)

The 12v to 6v downgraded is used to provide the correct power output for the backup camera. The idatalink maestro is for maintaining steering wheel controls.

If anyone has questions about the specifics, please let me know!

Oh goodie, so that's basically the easiest possible combination. (I was asking about steering wheel controls and subwoofers because you'd need even more adapters for those. And auto climate control makes the din kit a pain in the ass, you gotta import it from Japan. But yours looks like a base model without any of that.)

So you're going to need:

I have used the universal kayak racks for 30 bucks on Amazon and I have also just laid it across the bar. Both work fine. The OB has flat bars though and the bought racks have a round bracket but just tightening them down really made it secure. I have not used them since they got replaced (a tree ripped them off during the hurricanes) but even when they were used, they held up to some pretty rigorous kayak hauling.

Just got an outback myself so I spent the last week looking for options. I have a friend that car camps and uses a 4" foam mattress topper so I know that can work. I saw the tri-fold mattress below on sale and it looks like it can compress so I'm giving that a try. I liked it because it seemed easier to stow than a topper you'd have to roll up. If it doesn't end up meeting my needs I'll return it and go with a mattress topper.

Edit: just got the tri-fold delivered. Looks like it'll take up more space if that's an issue for you. The pictures looked like it could compress because it's shipped vacuum packed. You should be able to stack stuff on it no problem but I think a stuff sack is out of the question. Also a little heavy but seems so damn comfy.

I have this CD insert holder. I was careful to make sure to not "tighten" it too much and expand the CD slot. The biggest drawback is that it does obstruct the viewscreen a bit.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations. I have had one of these vent mounts in my Altima for years. I wasn't expecting it to work in my Outback.

I picked up my Outback last weekend and gave it a try and it works well. I have it all the way to the right of the center-right vent. Doesn't obstruct the touch-screen at all.

Which Legacy do you have? The 1996 Legacy LS uses 195/60-R15 stock tires, whereas the Legacy Outback uses a stock size of 205/70-R15.

Some of the better off road tires are the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T-A KO2's. You can also go with the Grabber AT tires which are much cheaper. The only problem is that it's sometimes tough to find all sizes with one brand. Both are good tires though.

The only downside is a bit of a reduction in mpg, increased tire noise, and a little more wear and tear on the suspension and bearings. The trade off is pure awesomeness and great offroad grip.

You can get them at most tire shops but they might have to order that size. These are just a couple examples of what's out there.

Hey man sorry just saw this, new to reddit, idk how to send pictures but I posted a couple on my page to f you want to take a closer look. I have a Yakima basket which used 1” round bars just like their cross bars and I bought these to connect them. They’ve lasted me about 3 years, 2 light bars and 2 cars.

I use hood loops which tuck away when not in use. If the straps are tight, they do not rub on the hood.

In the back, I secure to the tow hook that is stored next to your spare tire.

A Kenwood DDX9704S. It's ok. I think I might put it in another car. And putting in and Alpine or a Sony. One of their big 9 inch screen stereos.

Honestly not worth having to worry about the port breaking your phone incase someone mistakenly jerks it or pushes on it.

I got this for my 2017 and is much better than the TechMatte one as the screw for it would block the screen a bit.

Currently if I have the phone mounted it still blocks the view but I can remove it for complete visibility.

Did you just bought the 2018?
