I'd go with an HP business if you're going to spend that much. https://www.amazon.com/HP-EliteDesk-Quad-Core-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B07J1VNDBG/

It's going to be a little bigger. But with better specs, probably much more reliable. And I tend to trust things less that have fewer incentives (Govt contracts etc) not to be infected with spyware.

This sounds like an Epistocracy, which I'm not necessarily opposed to, but voting tests have historically been used to discriminate against minorities.

Voting tests do make sense. After all, we have to get driver's licenses to drive and pass the bar exam to practice law, but we don't have to know anything to elect the President. So the question is, how do you ensure that the voting tests aren't used by those in power to discriminate against minorities and violate their human rights? You'd need a decentralized way to certify that someone is knowledgeable.

You might have read it already, but Jason Brennan's Against Democracy is a really good book on the subject.

Thanks for your response, and thanks for all the work you've put into your wiki, it's a fantastic resource and very much appreciated!!

I've now switched to Fedora 29 on my Raspberry PI 3 B+, but I've had a hell of a time getting it to work. The very first problem I ran into was getting a blank screen on my 7" touchscreen after booting up with Fedora 29 on my SD card. It turns out this is a known issue which is documented here. I managed to solve it by doing the following:

  1. Hook up another HDMI display which works, so you can go through the initial setup process
  2. edit /etc/default/grub and blacklist the vc4 driver:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.driver.blacklist=vc4"
  3. Blacklist the vc4 driver when the root device is mounted

    echo "blacklist vc4" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-vc4.conf
  4. run grub2-mkconfig to regenerate the grub.cfg file

    grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg
  5. Reboot

    The only really tricky part is if you don't have access to another working HDMI display in step 1.

    You might want to add the above to your wiki in case anyone else runs into the same issue (and I think anyone with a RPI 3 B+ and the standard 7" touchscreen will have this problem).

    Now it's time to go through the rest of the process as documented in your wiki.

    As for external storage, I've bought a Samsung BAR Plus 64GB - 200MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive, hopefully that will be sufficient?
