If you're interested in learning, I highly recommend picking up a copy of Essential System Administration from O'Reilly: http://www.amazon.com/Essential-System-Administration-Third-Frisch/dp/0596003439

It's a bit dated, but very much relevant. Definitely worth a read.

When I first left, I thought I'd boomerang within 6 months. Four months out, I don't think I'll be back for a year or two. The longer I'm out, the less the appeal. But then again, I've heard the fastest route from SDE2 to 3 is to leave for 12 months and apply for the 3 role.

If I did come back, I'd probably come join you guys in CSTech. I hear good things.

Oh, and you do know me. Old-school Amazon Toronto in-joke reference: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003F24D0S

Anyone thinking to working at startup or already working at startup please read/listen Disrupted: My Misadventure in the Start-Up Bubble Kindle Edition Dan Lyons.

I am not saying working at start up is bad or anything . But don't burn out your self working 10+ hours 7 days a week in hope of earning big return on your time investment.
