> And the first of so many people to show his gratitude by laying the path for so many millions to learn TM.
Yeah. I understand that people are suspicious of other people's motivations, but sometimes people really are (more or less) whom they seem to be.
Ages ago, I met a professor at the University of Arizona, Anoop Chandola who told me a couple of stories about Maharishi, but he swore me to secrecy on the second one so I won't reveal it until he dies or decides to reveal it himself.
Chandola's Uncle was the head priest of a famous temple in Northern India and was one of the committee of scholars and religious people who selected Maharishi's teacher to be the Shankaracharya of the North.
ANyway, because of his uncle's connections, he dropped by the Shankaracharya to chat and teh first thing they asked was "which one" because there were two of them due to a long-running controversy.
Chandola chose to chat with the one mentioned in Gurudev's will and so during the conversation he asked "What about that 'Maharishi' who is with the Beatles? Is he legitimate?"
The Shankaracharya laughed and said: "Let me put it to you this way: he would be my first choice as my successor, but they wont' allow it due to the caste laws."
.
Chandola, who learned meditation from the Shankaracharya, Swami Santananda Saraswati, told me that Gurudev was the most important spiritual leader in India in the first half of the 20th Century and that his student, Maharishi, was the most important in the second half.
When I said that it was too bad that he didn't get to be Shankaracharya, Chandola pointed out that if he had, the entire world would have missed out, so it all worked out in the end.
.
You can get a hint of what Chandola's Uncle told him by reading his novel, In the Himalayan Nights: there's a brief conversation between two characters that discuss Maharishi.
Edit: and of course, you can watch the video where Tony Nader is honored to get a feel for how at least some high-caste Hindus feel about Maharishi: https://youtu.be/MIlLh3-55Is?t=1770
DISCLAIMER: I am not a therapist or medical professional.
I can't see how it can hurt. Indeed, TM has been shown to be an enormous help:
"Writers’ Voices welcomes world-renowned psychiatrist and author, Dr. Norman Rosenthal, to discuss his most recent book, “Transcendence: Healing and Transformation Through Transcendental Meditation”. This wide-ranging book uses stories, research, and his own clinical experience to show the benefits and value of TM. Interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Martin Scorsese, Russell Brand, and Laura Dern are also featured."
"Dr. Rosenthal is the author of a number of books and has been a leader in describing “Seasonal Affective Disorder” and pioneering the use of light therapy to treat it. He has maintained a private practice in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area for over thirty years."

TM practitioner here. I won't go on about finding a way to do it. I just wanted to caution you not to believe you can get something off the internet that will be almost as good. Someday you may have the opportunity. Don't spoil it by dabbling and corrupting your experience. This is a good book on mindfulness (Vipaissana meditation) if you want to go there in the meantime:
