I too am constantly on the lookout for a bag with almost your exact specifications. It's like every single bag out there is either ultra-tactical and therefore not my style, or else it's hand-crafted from high quality Himalayan mountain cow leather or some shit and it costs an arm and a leg. Or it's only available in super-feminine prints or styles. My mom has a bag that is amazing and I would love to have one in, like, plain black or something, but the brand only makes bright floral prints. Not really my style.

I don't need it to be an heirloom piece, I'll buy a new one every few years if I have to, I just want something that isn't gigantic, that looks nice enough that I won't get weird looks carrying it to work, but also casual enough that I similarly won't get weird looks walking down the street with it.

I currently am using a Pacsafe 200 which I am mostly happy with. It is a good bag, but is very slightly too small to be perfect. It definitely wouldn't fit your Surface.

I've seen that Kenneth Cole bag in person and it is, at least in my opinion, not quite as nice as it looks online. I mean, it's still a great bag, but the leather is a very soft leather life you might find on furniture rather than a more stiff leather that I typically prefer in a bag. That may or may not bother you, but I just wasn't that impressed with it. I can't really speak to the others except that that LEABAGS LONDON bag looks pretty sweet. Oh, and also, the Muzetto's are incredible but obviously way more than I would ever want to pay for a bag.

Its pretty average, i have one so i will share my opinion on it.

The pro of this bag.

This bag is lightweight and the material itself can repel water without the rain cover so i suspect using it on light rain is fine but for heavier rain the cover will be useful.

The belt strap is removable (which i did) and it is comfortable for everyday use.

The bag also have a pocket for a laptop or watter bladder.

The bag have a pocket at the front which have decent organization for your pen and other stuff and it can fit various stuff in it.

Lastly the front vertical zip can fit a lot of stuff as well. But it wont fit large items because of the vertical zip have an awkward opening.

The carry handle is comfortable for carrying the bag.

The bag have decent amount of organization and everyday use.

The bag is solid and uses strong quality materials. Also the back panel really helps with ventilation so you dont sweat buckets while using it

Now here are the cons.

If you fill the main pocket or the vertical main pocket too much, it will render either pocket useless as it will fill the other pocket.

The laptop pocket is very small in my opinion and its tight fit caused some minor frustration when pulling the laptop out. Also if you dont use a laptop, it means that this pocket is a waste of space.

Another problem is that for a bag this size, it only fits approximately a small amount of stuff. The website stated that its a 16L backpack. Which in my personal opinion, its rather smallish.

The bag will not stand upright. This is one of the more frustrating thing for me since the bag cannot stand on itself but its rubber bottom helps it stand against a wall.

And finally, This bag may state that its" covert" or "blend in the urban enviroment" and stuff but in my opinion, this backpack doesmay the exact opposite. It may attract some attention due to its unusual design.

TL; DR: The fail safe pack is a great bag for carrying your everyday essentials such as your laptop and tools but for travelling or hiking or anything that requires filling every bit of space the bag have is not what the fail safe pack can do.

I generally dont recommend this backpack since you can get away with better backpacks for that money.

If you want a backpack with decent organization and carry to work, i suggest checking out the COVRT18 by 5.11 or the popular 5.11 RUSH however the 5.11 rush is not exactly an office backpack but its organization and material is great.

Oh very nice then! I'm glad you're not planning on relying on a Walmart saw and that you've already used the one you've got! I feel like testing your kit out some is something that a lot of people overlook doing when they assemble their emergency kits.

The only other thing I'd recommend looking for a better quality option of would be that flashlight in your smaller kit (because I'm not sure what that larger flashlight is). /r/flashlights has been invaluable for me in finding good quality lights, and there has been an AMAZING boom in flashlight technology...from LED bulbs to batteries....everything is 100X better than it was a decade ago. Also, 18650 batteries seem to be insanely powerful with a VERY low parasitic draw, so they seem like a great option for long term use potential. Couple that with a light that also takes CR123A's (that has a tremendous shelf life) and you have an ideal BoB or GHB option in my opinion.

I personally carry a handful of lights around daily (for various uses with various form factors), but my 'big' light is a Fenix UC35. I. Love. This. Light. It's amazing.

I've also been looking hard at a set of Olight S2 Baton's for my sister and mother to replace their hardware store specials.

Actually, these types of posts are my favorite because it really showcases many different ways to get to the same goals. There's a lot of stuff and styles out there, and no end to the possible combinations!

Thanks for sharing!

Update: I've discovered that what I want is not available for purchase anywhere. Since discovering this, my tastes have changed anyway. I decided I'm going with the theme of what this bag is for. It's for all my medicine. I'm going to get a medical or doctors bag. I am very close to making the purchase... I just can't deal with the interior on this bag:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VX7TJRO/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_28?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2MFA9R14MNF1X

Such a poor choice in pattern.

This is taking a step in the right direction. The stripes are much better then having the product's name everywhere. The dark brown is also what I prefer, and it is not available on amazon. But that price tag! Even without a real cap on this thing I can't justify that. If it were perfect, maybe. It is the exact design I want. Exact color and everything, but I want the inside to be leather like this bag:

https://www.maxwellscottbags.com/products/donninil-large-leather-doctor-bag.html

Love this bag! I just want it to be shaped like the other two. I fear I'm going to have to choose, and this last one is smaller than the other two, which is a little smaller then what I was expecting to get in the first place. (16 vs 18 inches) The final thing is the drop bottom zipper. I would prefer leather zipper tabs to the metal ones. Seems like those break easier. Would be nice to have a lock on the bottom also, but I have never seen this. Please help! =)

No - this one. Looks like the white is on sale... I tried pulling up my order to see how much I originally paid but it's not coming up. I picked up the black one a while back - and the picture now looks glossy, at least on the sides. Mine is completely matte. It appears to be the same product, though. DO note that the 12V contract is 3A, so that'll max out at 36W - you'll want to get the 15V cable in that case. Check out the pictures for an idea of the size - I bought a handful of highly rated PD chargers and that's the one I carry around with me when I travel. Looks like Anker is also selling a similar one now, but it's 30W max.

Yep - Agree completely on the Surface Pen. I think hardware wise it's totally fine, it's just the SW integration is never pen first on Windows that I've found. If you find a good app, it's kind of a pain on moving the files around from a "workflow" perspective.

I'm not a huge fan of the apple "way" either - but the focus on user experience (and restraint) has me at least exploring. Not sure I'll be sticking with all the devices in the long run, but for now the iPad Pro has been surprisingly usable. I'm trying to challenge my limiting mindset preference for Windows as "I use it because it's what I've always used" - if my experiment actually reveals macOS is worse for my needs, I'll switch back (at least on desktop/"real" OS side).

Anyways, good luck!

Edit: Just for completeness - the cable I used looks like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Kissmart-Surface-Connector-Charging-Requires/dp/B07RWJCR3F
I want to say I got the J-go one, but my order isn't showing up... I must have placed it on an old work account :(

I remember reading some of these cables have a problem where they are powered up before connecting to the surface, so it can have a dangerous short - definitely read the reviews. The new ones seem a LOT cheaper - maybe they've fixed issues and gone more mass market...

Thanks folding works for the day but I am looking to be able to keep backup clothes in my pack for long term without wrinkles. The patch is on amazon US Flag Thin Blue Line Velcro Patch for Police and Law Enforcement https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SWJS058/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_PygRwbFTP16ZA

I love the pack so far it carries everything I need and more.

Try a northface bag? Mine has lasted for 5 years and is still fine other than looking a bit beat up.

[Borealis] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/North-Face-Unisex-Adult-Borealis-Backpack/dp/B010MNTIIO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480620305&sr=8-1&keywords=north+face+borealis)

[Vault without front elastic] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00OSE8E0C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Lowepro and osprey are also good i just haven't had personal experience with them.

Edit: I only just swapped to the vault this year due to reduced work load and better looks.

5.11 Covrt 18 currently $97 on Amazon. It's a tactical bag but looks like a normal bag.

You could look for a 30l military backpack. Just look for a 'MOLLE 30L Bag' on amazon or somewhere, its a decent size, has a load of storage and lasts ages.

Just picked this up. Has a back zipper to get to the laptop quick without having to dig through the whole bag. It's also on sale right now.
