This is what I do. I fill the preform with 50% yeast from a starter that I’ve overbuilt and then top it off with a 50/50 solution of wort/food grade glycerin.
For management I slant 4 preforms for every new yeast I get. One goes to my Homebrew buddy who only uses dry yeast, one gets a different color cap, two get white caps and all labeled with month/date created and on the cap labeled with just the yeast info.
When I want to make a stater I pull out the preform two days before I’d normally would (they take longer to get started).
I still wash a yeast if I think I’ll use it within the year and it’ll go in the fridge in a mason jar.
Once I get to my last preform (different colored cap) I re-overbuild that yeast and restart.
Like u/fuckernaut said soda preforms. You can reuse the preform and buy replacement caps. I’ve also though about using 4 oz mason jars since everything is reusable.
