I just want to wrap you up in a cuben fiber tarp and cuddle you while explaining everything will be ok. :)
This will be a learning trip. When you return you will have some great lessons learned about what is needed and what isn't.
For now, I'll just leave you with a link and good hiking wishes.

You don't need to cut the whole rim like these videos do. Cans were commonplace then, I'm sure a compact can opener was standard issue kit. Perhaps something like this:

Here you go! [Best can opener ever.](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IDQW3S/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_KvXVub1D1MSK5
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IDQW3S/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_KvXVub1D1MSK5) Never touches the contents of the can, never gets wet or dirty. I cannot attest to it's BIFL status but it feels sturdy.

That big can opener is way overkill! I had to laugh a little, and I won't be the only one.
Try a P-51: http://www.amazon.com/Pack-Survival-Opener-Military-Model/dp/B005IDQW3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1395505324&sr=1-1
I don't even carry a P-51 because I have the equivalent on my multitool, not to mention that a good survival knife will get the job done in a pinch.
Pugs are awesome

Military Can opener!
P-51 I have a ton of em and you find more uses for them than one would think.
Weird Things, I will admit this is probably the cheapest and most interesting thing I have come across. Also, might not be used ever, but hey, never know =)
Based on your wishlist, how about these can openers, this awesome bottle opener carabiner, or this eatin tool? Also, if you spend a lot of time outdoors, I'd suggest these mosquito coils, they really work for me!
Leafy scoops would improve my life because I have 3 giant oak trees in my yard that spew leaves and pollen everywhere. I rake up 6 bags of leaves a week, and it's only going to get worse. These would save me a lot of time and back pain.
Gotta say first that I like the Part 1/B thing.
Also, didn't realize it was an extra special pi day until I read this.
With that being said, this is my closest item to $3.14.
And this is probably the most science-y thing I've got.
Huh. Turns out I do have something that fits the bill on my list.
survival kit can opener, $2.24
~scouring to see if I have anything closer to $2.37~
Edit: Not Prime, though. Damn.
Happy Birthday! I recently celebrated the fourth anniversary of when I turned 22.
These survival / military can openers are cheap cheap cheap!

I did some cave surveys for endangered bats in February. I got to see two species of bats that I have never seen before so that was pretty cool.
