I did some amateur glassblowing for about 4 years. In my experience, I burned my forearms far more often than I burned my hands. It was also almost always with hot metal things (blow pipes/rods, tools, parts of furnaces) rather than the glass itself.

That's just talking about 2nd degree burns though, the kind that will form a blister. It was quite common to get minor 1st degree burns (redness, minor persistent pain) just from radiant heat. This can happen when gathering glass from the furnace, reheating in the glory-hole, or just if the piece you're working on is big enough. To prevent this, you often have a partner shield your arm with a wooden paddle or make sure to open the furnace doors only as much as absolutely necessary. I would also sometimes wear a Kevlar sleeve like This.
