He forgot to mention the $1000 PC you’ll need to build on top of the $500 cost of the rift.

If you have a PS4 you can buy one of the bundles for $300 new or I’ve seen them for $150 used.

Much cheaper way to get into VR.

Or you can go this way.

People holding out waiting for the VR renaissance are missing out on some great experiences. Things like NBA VR and sculpture are great for people who aren’t into video games. Games like Firewall Zero Hour and Pavlov are. Plus the more people that get involved the more the tech will progress.

Personally I think AR is the future but it’s all really exciting.

Not really what you asked for, but my favorite is the Matel View-Master VR viewer. It is quite cheap (usually under $20) and is a Cardboard 2 viewer with capacitive touch button (a lot of other cheap viewers dont have one). It also has a translucent cover so supports some augmented reality features. Many don't have this. Biggest downside is it doesn't have a head strap but I don't usually consider this a problem. This thing is simple to use and accessible for all ages. I use this to show VR content to parent and kids, and hold it on their face makes intuitive sense for them...

As far as a cheap head mounted variety, the one I recommended to a friend a while ago was a variant of this. It also had a capacitive button at a very cheap price.

Most VR headsets are most universal. Just take the measurement of how big your phone is, and compare it to what a headset says it'll fit.

For example, this is the current top selling mobile VR headset on Amazon. In the description, it says that it wil fit most 4.0-6.0 inch phones. The Z2 Play, according to GSMArena, is 5.5 inches. So that VR headset more than likely will work.

Sidenote: none of these universal type headset are actually powered or hook into the phone at all. These headsets are just fancy phone holders with angled lenses.

Does that answer your question?
