I would use a different type of tape and cover the whole thing.

Here is a car wrap sample that should work. Just test it before you apply it.

You can get colored duct tape which would hide the edges of the charger a bit.

If the charger is too thick, you could trace it and cut the dot view case to make a divot for it and then cover it with something.

My main concern is that the reason it fails when placed inside the case could be a physics quirk. The thick Al body may throw off the induction coil. This would explain why they did not build one in the phone in the first place. So modding the case may not work.

Maybe try putting something between the phone and the charger, and then put the case on. Many people keep 20$ in their case for emergencies, and the folded bill could get the coil far enough from the Al body to let it work.

You would most likely have to disassemble the screen to get to the back of the casing in order to pop it out. I'd say to just cover it with a piece of vinyl.

You could get some in plain black or get a carbon fiber pattern which I think would look nice.
