I started to wear these while motorcycling, which work well if used properly. Then I realized that there are lots of other opportunities to gradually damage your hearing, like inside of a server room, so now I always have a couple with me in my bag. You can't listen to music, but they're less bulky and you can always have them with you.

Electronic ear protection is nice but it's not necessary and, often, electronic ear muffs have lower NRRs. More pricey too.

I bought a box of these earplugs and the earmuffs you linked; they work great together, and I won't run out of earplugs for a LONG time! I highly recommend doubling up like 300blackoutdrunk suggested.

I use these guys. They come in a box with a jillion of them with each pair sealed in plastic for not very many dollars. They're a little bit smaller than typical foam plugs so they fit well inside the ear and are so soft and comfortable that I don't feel them at all even on hour+ commutes. I wear each pair for a week or two usually (daily use) by which point they get a little dirty from my hands and I replace them. They would last much longer than that but I like having a nice clean set in my ears and why not.

Welcome to the world of not having long-term hearing loss and tinnitus! Just because you were used to the sound level before doesn't mean it wasn't damaging your hearing. Maybe I take it a little more seriously than most because I've spent a lot of time and money having my ears/hearing surgically repaired at one point so they're something of an investment to me, but trust me when I say the only people that don't care about long term hearing damage are people that have ever experienced being deaf. It fucking sucks (sorry deaf people.)

I use the 3M disposable earplugs. It was something like $20 for a 200 pack and they come individually packaged. They've lasted since August for me, riding 5-6 days a week, throwing them away after every ride, still have lots of them left.

Also running a Sena 30K in my Shoei X-Fourteen helmet. The sound quality is great and can be heard easily but the earplugs totally eliminate wind noise, it's great. I would highly recommend this setup. Audiologist recommended to me, and now on to you.

Things I can vouch for not working:

• Mpow Foam earplugs, disposable - comfy and soft and would be great for sleeping, but not for repeated motorcycle use. They're OK, but they just don't fit as well as the 3M's and in the cold weather here right now, they never expand back out all the way.
  
• Decibullz Custom Molded Earplugs - expensive as hell, and they block entirely too much sound. If you can't really hear your bike anymore, that's a problem. They also stick out of your ears too far and hit your Sena helmet speakers. No bueno. Also, the foam earpieces need infrequent replacement, running into the same issues as complained about with the Etymotic's I'll review next:
  
• Etymotic Research ER20XS High Fidelity earplugs - apparently these don't have the decibel rating advertised, and aren't doing enough to protect your hearing. Also, the foam earpieces only last a week or so, and they're $15 for a 4-pack, so you're spending $15 a month on replacement eartips for earplugs that don't work as well as advertised. Shame, because I really liked these at the start, but now I'm really sold on my disposable 3M's.
  
  I must've spent over $100 on trying all these various setups, and in the end, the cheapest solution is actually the best. It's crazy, but also great.

You will damage your ears in a 20 minute ride from both the wind and bike noise. You really should always wear earplugs. Hearing damage is permanent.

Edit: also you can put the slipon back on the bike without the gasket. It will leak but will be way quieter than a straight pipe.

I've tried Mack's, Hearos, and a bunch of other brands and in terms of comfort and noise reduction ability i haven't found anything better (plus they are individually wrapped so i always keep a bunch of pairs in my backpack)

If it's a JetBlue flight they always have T.V.s on the plane, which have free movies that can distract you from the sound and block it out if they're loud enough. Idk about other airlines, but you should ask your parents. The T.V.s helped me a ton when I was travelling on a three hour flight with my brother and his kids, who all chew so loudly that I could hear it across the aisle, not to mention the lady next to me smacking her gum. If not, would it be possible for you to buy those ear plugs they use at gun ranges? Those are literally designed for blocking out excessive noise from gunshots, so they're fairly effective (not foolproof, though).
