No matter how I try to dry them out, loofahs always smell musty to me after a while. I used to have a really good strap with sisal bristles, similar to this one but a longer bristle pad. It eventually fell apart and I don't really care for the woven sisal straps.
These days I use a net rope. Since they don't have much "scratch" , there's no risk of scrubbing yourself raw and are perfect for using everyday. They are inexpensive and I can just throw it in the laundry to keep it fresh.
I haven't used a washcloth in the shower or bath in years. I use one on my neck and ears when I wash my face and that's pretty much it.
