It's not "cheap" for many people, but not nearly as bad as they used to be.

I sold a used this on /r/hardwareswap for $31.40 a few days ago. If you're looking for a lower end 1080p to just get the job done, I'm sure there are plenty of used options locally or online.

Yeah, you're likely not gonna get 144hz on anything other than CS:GO on low settings or something.

I believe all of the monitors are 1080p, 60Hz.

I'm also on San Francisco, and I think you should build one yourself/have someone build one for you, unless you can find a good deal on one of the HP's mentioned here. I might be able to help build one.

I would really say tolerating a $50 monitor in the long run will be a challenge if you plan to use it for a while and especially for PC use. Which 21.5 inch monitor should I get: HP for 100$ or Acer for 110$

The HP has IPS which means it should be better but I wanted to ask if anyone has bad experiences. Acer seems like the more reliable brand, I was planning on getting that monitor to begin with but then the price increase from 90$ to 110$ and now the HP is cheaper anyway. Should I just go for the HP?

EDIT: The HP doesn't have DVI, but it does have HDMI (which the Acer does not). I was planning on using DVI, is HDMI noticeably different? It also has 7ms response time. Big issue or no?

Well my point was it doesn't need to be too expensive. If you already have a computer ands a halfway decent graphics card, you can run surround/eyefinity with some fairly cheap monitors. 1080p@60hz is fine for most people who have not transitioned to 120 or 144hz. The ones in the OP look like a variation of these. Still, if you have some money to play around with it would be better to go for a higher refresh rate, assuming the graphics card will be able to run a game at that sort of resolution at a frame rate to take advantage of the higher refresh rate those offer. I would say a graphics card is easier to replace than 3 high-end monitors, but again it depends on the situation. One thing to consider is that older versions of HDMI were only able to carry 1080p at a max of 60hz while later versions that added UHD and 3D pushed beyond that.

So after having my laptop fail on me in less than a year, I decided that I would finally build my own rig. I've read the /r/pcmasterrace's wiki but I still need some guidance on where to look to start my build.

I don't really need a gaming rig since I'll be more focused on software development and some hobbies like drawing and video editing. However, I might decide to beef up my pc for exactly this so upgradability is something important to me. Since I'll go with Linux, I would really like to go the AMD route, and I'm wondering if I should go with the new Rysen models or if I should check for older models that are still good? What kind of GPU should I buy?

As for the monitor, I've read stuff about refresh rate and I'm not sure what's best for me. Should I put a lot of money on it or can I just go for some cheaper model like this one?

I would like to keep it budget friendly, but if you guys think it's worth it, I'm willing to invest more if it's means futureproof and good performances.

However, I do have some extra cash and was wondering if I would be limited by this monitor? Possibly order a 1440p instead? Or will I be comfortable with 1080p as newer titles are release? Just looking for a little nudge.

I switched monitors recently from this to this and changed the resolution. Since then whenever I pull up the emote wheel or hero switch there's a half second or so lag. It's like it suddenly struggles to pull then up. Has anyone else had this happen?

I know you put hdmi in your post, but if you're able to use dvi or vga then there's an acer 1080p 60hz monitor you can buy new for $80.

If you're just looking for a decent one that gets the job done, but is still cheap, then I recommend this one if you're able to purchase in the next 3 hours. Otherwise, I'm using this one and it's perfect.

Since you aren't doing anything demanding, that computer should be fine. You are only leaving yourself about $150 for two monitors though.

This wouldn't be a bad choice for a monitor. There are other cheaper choices, but they you will have weird resolutions. Might be fine with your workload.

Also, I use Amazon, because I find the best deals on there, but I always shop around and find out which place gives the best price on a specific product.

I've used that exact Acer monitor in the past, and it's not too bad. Nothing fancy, but it's a fairly good panel.

I haven't used the HP myself, but a friend of mine has 2 of them and says they're pretty decent.

Really sorry I realized how i should put up some specs. Alright so I'm using 3 monitors. 2 of them are Acer G226HQL 21.5-Inch (1920x1080 they only have a dvi and a vga) and then one is Acer XB270HU 27-inch (2440x1440) and as for the wires I usually use 2 DVI-D one of which was plugged-in to the gpu and the other to the motherboard (Z77 EXTREME4) The 2440 monitor is plugged in with DisplayPort. However, I noticed that the Acer monitor plugged into the gpu was the only one running during boot-up so i thought to myself I will try using a HDMI to DVI and it didn't work but either way it works on windows. All running on a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti.

Ah, I misunderstood your original post. I thought you already had a system in mind to purchase and only needed advice on the monitor/monitors.

If you have Prime and can stretch your tower budget a bit, this isn't a horrible deal. Similarly, this one is stronger, but greatly eats into your monitor budget.

For monitors, you're looking at:

1 - Basic 1080p 60Hz monitor. Only real negative to it is the port options (VGA or DVI only).

2 - Refurbished, but alright.

3 - IPS panel, so better color accuracy than the others.

4 - Larger and has Freesync (75Hz refresh rate).

EDIT: Just reread your original post and noticed you specified LCD for the monitor type. Is that a 100% must-have or is LED okay too? I'll need to revise my monitor list if it's a must-have.

I have this monitor and this graphics card.

People mention playing in 1080p and they say they want to shoot for 144 ghz (is that the correct unit?) for display. I just plugged-and-played out of the box - am I already doing this? Am I even able to do this? Do I need to change any settings? How do I figure all this out?

Magicforce 68 + Acer G226HQL for $130. The monitor only has VGA and DVI, so you may need some converters if your laptop doesn't output VGA/DVI. Magicforce is a solid board for the price.

I used to have a 21" 1080p Acer monitor (something like this) then upgraded to dual 24" Asus monitors.

Pixel wise, it's not a huge difference since I'm sitting far enough back that I can't really tell.

Size wise it's a huge difference, and I'm a lot happier with a larger screen as opposed to the smaller one. Add the second monitor and it's even better.

If I had my druthers I'd get a primary 27" 1440p monitor with a 24" 1080p secondary. I don't think I'd want anything larger than a 24" 1080p monitor though.

So I'm trying to narrow down choices for monitors under $150, been looking around and also thanks to Techsource's video I've got the four I think I want to choose from, and just wanted to see if anyone else has any feedback.      Im not looking for anything larger than 24, and for the build I plan on I won't be going above 1080p resolution. The 3 non-widescreen monitors I know are super popular, but I included the widescreen because although I plan on gaming I am still in school and in a little over a year will be starting medical school so I would love a widescreen for productivity (though Im not sure if it would be worth a single widescreen vs Dual monitors, since this widescreen is only 23 Im not sure if it would be any different than the other choices).
     
     Im not sure what to think about the VESA mounting options, as Im not sure if I would end up mounting a monitor so for now lack of VESA isn't necessarily a con.

I'm on a budget, so this seems like a steal. Only downside I see is the lack of HDMI. Is DVI just as good as HDMI? (besides the audio aspect)
