The second one is a Panda panel, Panda LC238LF1F to be exact: http://www.panelook.com/LC238LF1F_Panda_23.8_CELL_overview_39415.html

it doesn't have a built in back light and a slower response time (7.5ms) compared to the more expensive AUO panel (AUO M250HAN01.6): http://www.panelook.com/M250HAN01.6_AUO_24.5_LCM_overview_39917.html

Currently Acer (VG240Y P), Philips (242M8) and AOC (24G2) are using the Panda panel. the acer one actually just got listed on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-VG240Y-Pbiip-FREESYNC-Technology/dp/B07VFPYRP3

As for the AUO panel, the recently registered Asus VG259Q is going to use it (probably will be shipping by November). The Acer XV253Q P is also expected to use the same panel.

/r/buildapcsales and I highly recommend getting an IPS for the better color quality. Something like this.

I'm sure part of that reason for the color banding and cloudy blacks is just the norm for TN panels.

The color from this panel is supposedly very good for a TN though.

If you want an all purpose monitor for various multimedia consumption, I'd look for a VA or IPS panel.

VA has the best contrast (deeper blacks) out of all the tech with great colors, but slowest pixel response time and great viewing angles.

IPS supposedly has the best color accuracy though (with mediocre pixel response time) and great viewing angles as well.

TN has best pixel response time, but worst colors and viewing angles.

MSI has several variants out that are 24" 144hz VA panels with some reaching $150 at times. They are mostly freesync though.

New tech panels are being released though that are subverting the norms.

For example, Acer released a 24" IPS 144hz 1080p panel which was before this year unheard of and was only $170ish on Amazon. Sold out now though.

IPS panels better suited to gaming before this year were usually only available at 27" 144hz or 24" 75hz.

Yes V-sync will smooth out the moving image and reduce stutter provided you can hold the framerate. But it adds some input lag and is generally not used for this reason unless your monitor has adaptive sync (FreeSync/G-Sync).

Another way to save heat and power consumption is to go into game settings for each game and limit framerate to the refresh of your monitor (60Hz / 60fps) which is an option in almost any game I can think of. This won't eliminate tearing like V-sync does though.

Btw just gotta mention, you're on PC so I highly recommend getting a 144Hz monitor it's so much smoother and more responsive, even an inexpensive one like this that is IPS and G-Sync Compatible:

For that price its gonna have to be VA. VA is a little iffy for gaming, so are you ok with that?

If so: this

This is at the very top of your budget, but its ips here

ACER Nitro VG240Y Pbiip (same panel) has already been on the market and for sale. It's been on Amazon.com for over a month by now I think (longer in markets like China. People have bought it and already posted impressions on this subreddit.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-VG240Y-Pbiip-FREESYNC-Technology/dp/B07VFPYRP3/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=ACER+Nitro+VG240Y+Pbiip&qid=1568776916&s=gateway&sr=8-1

The AOC will likely be more expensive due to the better stand (height adjustment).

Acer released theirs this summer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VFPYRP3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_V2NIDbSKXG9B9. I believe AOC also released theirs too, but only in China for now. Im personally waiting for the ASUS one that should be coming out this year

I don't think they have any available here yet, only 27" 1080p 144hz IPS.

I believe this one is the first of the 24" 1080p 144hz IPS displays, it's only in the states for now

Hi, the Acer Nitro VG240Y is a newer 144Hz IPS 23.8" monitor. The price is very solid on it, considering it is just a tad bit more expensive than a TN / VA 144Hz 24" display. It is cheaper than your budget.

u/kokolordas15 · 1 pointr/CabaloftheBuildsmiths

For 1800 you can do 1440p144.If you dont want that you can drop down to 1080p144 with this panel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VFPYRP3 and a cheaper GPU

Could not get to your build in time unfortunately.

Avoid the gn246hl.This monitor was popular half a decade ago.

Did yours come with sound? If so, where are the sound settings?

It shows up for me as being a sound device but none plays. I'm going to try a few more things tonight but I'm a bit stumped. If I can't get the monitor speakers working I'm considering returning it.

Also, US Amazon just stopped accepting orders due to having faulty stock or something

>This item is currently unavailable because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

>We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

The display panel itself is great, great colors and viewing angles, don't have noticeable ghosting or IPS bleed, my unit has no dead pixels, and appears to be working 144hz. I'd rate that 5/5.

But between bad stand, no DP cable included, short power cord, wacky HDR drivers/settings (when installing windows, this panel was grey-scale and so pixelated I could barely get through the install until I turned off HDR then updating drivers), freesync with normal overdrive - but not high overdrive, and showing up as a sound player but not playing sound, the monitor overall is like 3-4/5.

u/byakko_ · 1 pointr/buildapc

My suggestion. It's a 23.8" 144Hz IPS 1080p monitor. Haven't managed to snag one yet, but saw a review from another user that seemed promising.

u/redcheesedip · 1 pointr/Monitors

Building first set up soon and I've done 15+ hours on monitor research, had the same questions you did. Concluded that I will wait for the 25" 1080p 144hz IPS panel from AUO. Which should come in the ASUS VG259Q (€200ish). It's already out in china, will hopefully have it in EU very soon. If it takes too long to reach us I'm going to cave and get the 24" Panda panel with same specs and pay import from US. (link)

This fits all your criteria. The 1 ms response time however is based on VRB. If you can wait AOC is releasing a monitor with similar specs but with a 1ms MPRT response time.

Someone on another tread showed me an ips monitor with 144 hz and 1ms that just came out, idk how true that is but here’s the link

u/void_nemesis · 1 pointr/Monitors

If the laptop has optimus as well, then maybe - but honestly, for $200 (I'm assuming USD) you're much better off buying the laptop and a dedicated 144Hz monitor to use at home. That's what I did - I have the Asus GL504GV (i7-8750H, RTX 2060) without G-Sync (but it does have Optimus) and I very recently bought the Acer VG240YP which is honestly an amazing 144Hz IPS display for the price. This has the added benefit of giving you two screens for the same price as one with G-sync.

If you want to use G-Sync while traveling (if you travel often and can't drag around a monitor) then sure, that's your best bet - but once again I don't think it's worth it. I haven't really ever needed G-sync, since everything I run on said laptop stays around 100fps anyway.

u/Bebmak · 1 pointr/Monitors

It probably has better colors than your old monitor if that helps, but as i said its main features are not colors as it has a TN panel. There is also a new ips 24 inch 144 hz monitor it came out couple of days ago so there are no reviews for it. It would be the best if you went out and checked the monitors in person if you have that option.
