I travel carry on only, but take two bags - a backpack and carry-on size roller luggage.
This is because all of my trips are for work, I'm required to take a laptop, and a larger backpack makes my back hurt. So, it's easier for me to take a smaller backpack and a small roller and not hurt my back while travelling.
For bags I have a AmazonBasics 18 Inch Softside roller and a Timbuk2 Division backpack. If it is a short trip (5 days or less) I can usually get by with just the backpack.
