Diyarbekir was a city but also a vilayet in the Ottoman empire. Vilayets were administrative subdivisions, kind of like states. There were traditionally 6 Armenian vilayets in Western Armenia. You should try to find out specifically if they were from the city or some other place in the vilayet.

Also, you said "Diyarbakir is centrally located, closer to Syria than Armenia", which is technically not incorrect by today's standards, however considering the extent of the Armenian Highlands, Diyarbekir is not "closer to Syria than Armenia" because it is located in "Armenia", the geographc location, but not today's Republic of Armenia.

Diyarbekir was established on what was originally called Dikranagerd (the local, Western Armenian pronunciation, Tigranakert is used in the republic today), and Dikranagerd was the capital of the Armenian Empire at its greatest extent in 95-55BCE under the emperor Tigran the Great.

If you want an encyclopedia-type book about the Diyarbekir, I highly recommend Armenian Tigranakert/Diarbekir and Edessa/Urfa by Richard Hovannisian.
