What the fuck is their business plan? I just clicked on a random item on their page: ASUS G750JX-DB71 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black)

It costs 4.0147 BTC, which at this moment Google's BTC to dollar conversion says is $1893.28 USD. That same exact laptop is $1619.99 directly from Amazon

Its also the older version of the laptop, the newer, faster one (3.4 GHz instead of 2.4 GHz) is still cheaper: $1729.00

I was in the same situation as you...student who wanted a gaming laptop. Before I broke down and built my own (best decision ever) I did heavy research on the Asus ROG line up. I would recommend looking into building your own mini ITX for the portability and power, however I do undertand your needs. So...take a look at this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00COQIKKA/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1376059164&sr=8-2&pi=SL75. Great parts from a great company, and a decent waranty. Just be aware that no matter what laptop you buy, heat will be your greatest enemy. In my experience, the massive performance boost of a full sized PC will far outway the portability of a laptop that will only last 3 or 4 years. Goodluck though.

Edit 1: The closest you are going to come to "building your own laptop" will just be picking your own parts. Check http://www.powernotebooks.com/ out, their pricing is not awful and you can customize everything.

Then you absolutely want the ASUS G750JX. It has a quad-core Haswell i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 2 128GB SSD's on RAID 0, a 17.3" 1080p display and an Nvidia GTX 770M.

It will play everything you want on high or better settings with ~60fps or more and come in way under your $2000 budget.

I have one myself, they are sleek, durable, and really, really fast. Given the choice again, I would definitely make the same decision.

Hi AlwaysWanted!

If you're willing to go to $1590, the Asus ROG G750JX has an i7 4700HQ processor, 16GB ram, 1TB HDD + 256GB SSD, 17.3" 1920x1080 screen and a GTX 770M. The heat dissipation system on this laptop is particularly good, as it'll stay cool even while gaming. This way, you can get something that already has an SSD and have a system with excellent build quality. The price was $100 higher just a few days ago, so you'd be getting a good value.

I had a major problem with 2i4 FL 11 and Windows 8, would randomly turn my output into what sounded like 4kHz sample rate. Everything sounded fucked until I switched sample rate to 44.1 and then back to 48. Then all peachy until next reboot and repeat ad nauseum. I eventually bought Win 7 and went through driver install hell to get everything working again just because of this. Had it happen ONCE more on Win 7 and hasn't happened again since.

Apparently it was a known problem with ASUS though. My pc for the curious.

All in all though, great interface. No problems since.

My wife and I play Co-Op games exclusively, except that our 'condition' is that we never play online multiplayer. We each have one of these though, so that might change things slightly.

  • Star Craft II (LotV is very recent)
  • Company of Heroes
  • Rocket League
  • Diablo III

I know that you said that you don't like FPS, but my wife doesn't/didn't either and these are the ones she ended up enjoying anyway:

  • Minecraft
  • Left 4 Dead
  • CS:GO
  • Borderlands (2+)
  • Star Wars Battlefront

titanfall can be pretty taxing on a laptop.
as long as you dont need high settings, you'd be fine with most games.

this is way out of your budget, but would be my laptop of choice and would crush those games.

Maybe someone else can chime in here because I don't know much about laptops but the Asus G750JX was recommended to me and it's right at your price range.

It's made for high end gaming but I don't think you'll get 60fps on Crysis 3 on max settings. There's some performance vids on youtube.

hey guys thank you for your suggestion, the laptop seems nice, however I live in mauritius and not many sellers ship it there, the only one i found which does so is excaliberpc and the price of the ASUS G750JX-DB71 is $1900 from excaliberpc, which is $400 more expensive :/
do you have any other suggestions?

u/BlackieChan27 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I just bought the MSI GT70 a few weeks ago and I am literally in love with it. I can play games like Guild Wars 2, Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, Borderlands 2 and Battlefield 4 on high or ultra settings with no problems whatsoever

u/Nervoz · 1 pointr/Planetside

I play on a 4 years old Asus g73 the best buy model that was sold 1300$

I get 40-50 fps outside fights down to 15 fps in the bigger fights with medium to high settings and 80% rendering.

I've seen MSI laptops on amazon that run better graphic card and proc than mine for less than 1000$. Asus still makes cheap gaming laptop.
My point being if you pay 3000$ it is only because you want to overpay for the brand.

Asus g75 same proc, same ssd, better card (770m) and twice the ram : 1880$

Generic membrane keyboard on the Asus G750JX.

Thanks for the giveaway! Will it be random or based on your choice?

The laptop above will only play BF4 on Medium at about 45 frames or so, which is not great at all. You have to understand too that graphics cards in are big pieces of hardware, so sticking one inside of a 15.6in laptop is difficult.

With that said, if you are looking to future proof the laptop, your best bet will be to go for the G750JX. The performance for gaming will be much better.

The G750JX won't have an 840 SSD inside of it, but it will be twice the size. It also has Bluetooth 4.0 built into the system so you don't have to put money into a wifi card.
