This would be a nice PSN+ game because it barely outsold OG Borderlands which was a sleeper hit itself, and unlike that game, this one really needs an active online community.
EDIT: Game is only $12 on Amazon new...and I still do not want to play it, alone.
Here early so I can actually use the computer for this instead of using reddit on my phone.

The missions in story mode are kinda like dungeons in a mmorpg. You defeat lots of easy little guys, and there is a big boss fight at the end of each mission that drops the nice loot. Story mode is relatively short, but compared to many games you get a large cast of nearly 30 characters you can play it through with so that adds to the replay-ability. You start of with like 7 after the prologue and the others are unlocked through the story mode and leveling up.
It is okay in single player, but it kinda tends to favor the ranged characters a bit. In co-op it is more balanced and more fun, plus you have shot at being revived by a team mate. Yeah the last boss is very difficult at first but there is an easy way to keep from dying so many times.
In PvP the game plays more like a fps MOBA than a shooter. There is incursion, which is the most MOBA-like. Your base spawns minions which attack the enemy base, and whoever destroys the enemy base first wins. Meltdown is kinda similar, but instead of destroying a base, your objective is just to escort your minions from point A to point B. There is Face-off mode, which is kinda a PvP/PvE blend. You have to kill these monsters and pick up collectibles and turn them in while preventing your enemies from doing the same. Lastly there is capture which is a king-of-the-hill mode with three points to control.
Lots of fun stuff in PvP,but unfortunately it has a steep learning curve. You have the different modes you have to get used to, and on top of that there all the different characters with their own talents and then you have item builds to think about... not easy to just jump into. On top of that there is a small player base, so it can take time to find matches. When you do find a match, you might run into a premade with players that have been playing since beta and get stomped ><
If this game sounds interesting but still too expensive, you can buy in cheaper elsewhere. 12.99 on Amazon for example.
