Don't have a compressor, jelly, or high heat paint. And it seems like buying all of those would be more than the $20 to just buy a new burner

If you're looking for something a bit cheaper, my dad's friend used to sear steaks on one of these when I was younger. He's the main reason I got into BBQing, those steaks/burgers were so damn good.

For $20 on amazon it almost worth it just to give it a shot.

Edit: I accidently linked to the 10'' burner, the 6'' is the one he used and is a bit cheaper.

I assume your burner has a BG10 burner. Replace it with a BG12, you'll thank me later. It burns MUCH cleaner, and also speeds up your boil time. I made the switch a while back with my last burner (I've since upgrade to the Edelmetal burner which has a BG14 style burner) and I was extremely happy with the result. Also, for a $20 upgrade, it won't break the bank.
