I'd recommend Bearing False Witness: Debunking Centuries of Anti-Catholic History, which will get you up to speed on Nicene and Constantine and the distortions that books like Decoding Nicea make. The book is a good survey of the many historical distortions and fabrications about the Church, and it is solidly researched without it being a dry read, as it is meant for a general audience.
