My kitty made that same trip the other way a few months ago!

She flew with my parents via Southwest, which does allow you to have your cat in the cabin with you. Prior to the flight, she ate and used the box, in addition to getting a REALLY small dose of children's Benadryl. This made her sort of groggy and tired, but didn't put her under. Feliway also works pretty well for keeping kitties calm, which I used on a different occasion (7hr car trip).

One thing to keep in mind when flying: you will have to take your cat out of the carrier when going through airport security. A harness and leash is very helpful in this situation, in case your cat gets scared and tries to bolt.

Also, I think that you technically need to have proof of Captain Morgan's last rabies vaccination, although no one checked my kitty when she flew. If you have the papers/tag on hand, you should be fine.

When my kitty flew here, she was in a soft-sided carrier with a zipper on the top that allows you to stick your hand inside the carrier without opening it all the way. This was handy, because it allows you to comfort your cat mid-flight without fear of them getting out. There are also pads you can get to line the carrier in case your cat does have an accident.

All in all, the flying went pretty smoothly for my cat. She was a bit thirsty and shaken up by the time she landed, but was back to her old self within a couple of days.

Hope this was somewhat helpful. :3

I have a really small travel crate that is big enough for pup to stand up, sit down, turn around and lie down. It's the kind you bring on airplanes and whatnot. http://www.amazon.com/Bergan-Comfort-Carrier-Soft-Sided-Large/dp/B0015AFZZ4

In the airport he whined a little, but once on the plane he slept the entire way (5 hours). He was awesome. I didn't give him anything, but the dr said i could give him half a benedryl to knock him out a little. Dont forget to get your paperwork from your vet before you go.

My cat was like this as a kitten... she still does it. We just ignored her and as she got older she (mostly) grew out of it. Now we lock her out of the bedroom at night, if we don't she sleeps under the bed but gets up at like, 3AM and stands on my boyfriends chest and licks his face.

My advice, ignore him and continue with the positive reinforcement - it'll take time to train him. Someone else suggested playing before bed - I totally agree, it'll wear him out and give you at least a few hours of uninterrupted sleep. If you aren't worried about him not being able to get to the litter box you could also get a soft carrier to sleep train him in, something like this
