Samsung Galaxy A8 is probably your best bet for what you're loking for - 5.7" 1080p AMOLED screen and otherwise decent specs for cheap, but no US LTE support (3G only) and in this case, no warranty.

Alternatively, BLU Pure XR - 5.5" 1080p AMOLED, similar specs, with US LTE support and proper manufacturer's warranty, but for a bit more money and not as attractive of a design.

For $250, I can wait until the Note 8 or S8.
I have an S7. Don't do it. The Pixel and V20 seemed inferior. If you're forced to get an inferior device, why lock yourself into it for 2 years? Or an old one like the S7?
The XR is pretty decent. And I couldn't justify the upspend to the Honor 8. You're getting close to an S7 at that point.
