I basically don't have a vanity per se, but I have a lighted mirror (the light broke though, so just a mirror I guess :'D) on my desk and I have a train case/box that I pull out whenever I'm doing my makeup, and I keep the box under my bed (which is pretty high off the floor) when I'm not using it.
I brought all my makeup. I rarely stop by at home (maybe like 1-2 times a semester, besides breaks) and if I had left things there, I'd probably have regretted not bringing them with me at some point in the year.
I have one and they're still made :) I wanted one as a kid but my parents only seemed to want to get things for my older prettier sister. Fuck Y'ALL I said to my adult self! I'll get my own goddamned Caboodle! Classy as hell.
