Not sure if Linux support and freeBSD support are equivalent, but this has worked wonders for me:

I use a Canakit wifi N

It has monitor mode drivers, is cheap, and only gets hot if you use it for multiple hours. I generally heatsink it and attach it to my pi B+ wall deployments. It has never failed me.

For anyone interested it uses the railink 5370 chipset so it also supports packet injection with specialized drivers. Happy hacking!

The CanaKit stick (also for raspberry pi). I've bought a couple of these things so far for various purposes. They haven't let me down yet.
