If your camera is going to be situated near the audio board, you can just run an audio cable from the board to the camera (assuming it has an audio input). Something like a Canon VIXIA HF G20 is a decent choice. If that is too much, start moving down to the cheaper VIXIAs.

If the camera is positioned away from the mixer, then I'd get a small audio recorder like a Zoom H1 ($99) and plug that into the mixer. Or a smartphone should be able to record audio from a line in. When editing you would have to sync up the audio recording to the video, and mute the video's audio. It's not too tough.

Yes.

I have this and I've made 2 short films with it. Admittedly terrible short films, but at least I made them. And it wasn't the fault of the camera, it was my own--because my script was awful, because I didn't know how to manage my time, because I knew nothing about lighting, composition, focal length, aperture, sound design, etc.

A Sundance-accepted feature film was shot on an iPhone. Surely if a mobile telephone can do it then a camcorder can do it as well. That's because the camera is just the paintbrush, it doesn't matter if you have a generic $1 one or a fancy $50 one. What matters is your brushstroke technique, the type of canvas you choose, your use of colors and shapes, of light and shadows, and how you mix and juxtapose and shape them. The final product will be a creation greater than the sum of its parts.

If you think you need a better camera to tell your story, then you're basically saying that your gear is more important than you are. It's not.

This is a quote from a book I'm reading now called Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art by Stephen Nachmanovitch that really stuck with me:

>"One of the illusions our flute player has to drop by the wayside is that the wonder of the master's music has to do with the new flute, or the method of playing it. It's not the flute. Sometimes we think, If only I had a great instrument--a Stradivarius, a supercomputer with great graphics, a fine, perfectly equipped sculpture studio--I could do anything with it. But an artist can take the cheapest instrument and do anything with it as well. The artistic attitude, which involves a healthy dose of bricolage, frees us to see the possibilities before us; then we can take an ordinary instrument and make it extraordinary."

Now get the fuck off Reddit and go make something great.

I talked to the digital media teacher and she says that it may have been the white balance, but we don't really know.

I wouldn't suggest getting any type of camera like this just for dicking around with friends. If that's all you want to use it for, I would suggest just sticking with your phone. If you have a Samsung, the quality is pretty decent.

Pretty sure the cameras are out of date tho and they use Lumix GH5s now but I can't say either way for the other stuff. Think they have Rode mics to go with them and a boom as well.
