I'm debating this right now. Hopefully, you won't get too many useless Car Play/Android Auto responses. Sine you asked about where we mount our phones and not if, I will let you know what I considering. I have the 2018 base 6 speed maual model, just for reference. Directly below the controls for the head unit and above the Hazard warning button is a small flat surface. I'm considering on of the following adhesive mounts for this location.

In case that doesn’t work out, I just got the Vava dashboard magnetic holder (here’s the amazon link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076Q8F57P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nghKAbY5Z9240 ). I actually had trouble getting it to stick to the dashboard. I had to leave it untouched for 24+ hours, so I feel like it’ll come off pretty clean. I stuck it on the left side of the wheel, over the air vent, and it’s pretty unobtrusive. Facial recognition even works pretty well without any extra movement.
I use a similar magnetic mount from Amazon.
I mounted it to the left of the climate controls on a little flat space that was available.
