It's also worth looking in camera stores because they have a lot of quality bags. Camera+Camera and Photo Warehouse are right by each other on Queen St so between them you can see pretty much everything available.
You can actually get internationally-ordered bags relatively cheaply. This one from Amazon is NZ$65 including delivery, which is about half the price you'd find it for in New Zealand. It's a great bag with plenty of pockets and padded protection for your electronics. It'd take about two weeks to arrive though, so that might be a dealbreaker.

If you've got a laptop, this Case Logic Laptop Backpack has a modern minimalist look. Both the black and the grey are good choices.
Also, check out Da Kine's 33-liter. It comes in lots of different designs and colors, from low-key neutrals to vivid colors. I personally love the Palapa design, but that really doesn't fit with the cookie-cutter mentality of /r/malefashionadvice, so feel free to just pick a black or a navy if you'd prefer.
