That's a nice case. I'm pretty sure the NextBox is a Cooler Master 110, heh.
Seems to have popped back on Amazon at $99.90. If you're looking for cheaper, BHPhotoVideo has it for $49.99 (currently out of stock though), but I believe you have to pay shipping of about $20. I argued with Amazon about their pricing for a while, especially because I have Prime, but they justified it by saying that other vendors don't account for shipping cost in their prices (which seems kind of silly to me, given that I pay for "free" two day shipping already)
Regarding both of your concerns:
You do have to check that the components are equivalent in size factor, all of which have names like ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX. The smallest is Mini-ITX and most small cases will use this size factor. When building your system you should find the Mini ITX case that you like, the Elite 130 and Elite 110 come to mind (the one in my post is the Elite 130).
Then you should get a Mini ITX motherboard, as long as both your case and motherboard are the same size factor, you'll have no problems.
You should also consider:
The size of your Graphics card. The Elite 130 can support 30cm GPU thanks to it's long shape even though it's still quite small, pretty much every GPU will fit in there. The Elite 110 is an actual cube, quite small and even nicer for the living room (although the elite 130 doesn't look out of place either) but can only support GPUs up to 21 cm. There are some very powerful GPUs that can be manufactured in small shapes for this scenario like this r9 270x.
The height or shape of your cpu cooler. If you are not planning to overclock your CPU (if you are a beginner you shouldn't) then you can just use the stock cooler that will fit anywhere and not worry about that.
This ties to your temperature concern, honestly as long as you stick to no try anything crazy like overclocking your CPU or putting a 780 ti or R9 290x in there, you will be fine. This is possible, but you should at least have some experience before trying it. Maybe leave that for your second build.
This was my first build, the size factor does make it a little harder to work with but honestly, I just followed instructions and an official build guide from cooler master. I was done in an hour. I have an i5 4440 CPU and R9 270, even in the most demanding games I can usually achieve 1080p, 60 fps, high to ultra settings (medium-high in games like Metro last Light) with temperatures never rising above 55 degrees celsius using stock air cooling, which is extremely good and leaves me with 30 degrees of breathing room.
Seeing as I'm not in the US, that case isn't accessible to me. Amazon doesn't ship to where I am either.
How about this one? Doesn't come with a PSU though.
That case you linked is about the size of a PC your looking to build. They really don't go smaller without having options for a GPU.
Although you may have had issues with AMD in the past they're still worth it in this price point.
You could even build yourself a case if you have the tools to do so! Just an idea :P
Cases are the hardest things to look for in my opinion as they are subjective to personal preference etc.
Here are some other options I recommend.
Smaller Design than some cases in its price range but still great quality case. Can be bumped about travelling without too must issue.
The SilverStone RAVEN would be a good choice considering its size. Its slightly longer and wider that most itx cases but it is thin so it could bit in a large back-pack, downside it is it more costly so you'd probably draw you back somewhere else.
Edit: Also I meant that an AMD GPU would be better at this price point but it really doesn't matter too much.
What I did was built a gaming rig out of a mini itx gaming board and put into a cube case. It's about 1ft cubed. Coolermaster has some nice small cases for itx. Won't find much in a soc config with that kind of video horsepower yet.
