edit 2: I've had a lot of success with this guy's hummus video recipe (TLDW; soaking the chickpeas and taking off the skins helps w/the creamy texture I like).

I have this guy in my college apartment and I find it moderately useful. It mostly gets used when I'm baking pastries, I rarely use it for day-to-day cooking. I do think it's worth it, though, since I really don't want to do something like grinding up almonds by hand. (I did get mine as a hand-me-down gift, though, so money wasn't an issue)

I'm looking for the same thing. This cuisineart has good reviews, and it isn't prohibitively expensive. The other cuisinearts also have really good reviews, but the 9 cup one is $100 more, and who needs a 9 cup food processor anyways?

I love my oxo good grips swivel peeler and a good rolling pin because I bake a ton (but you could use a bottle).
