Using sensodyne pronamel toothpaste can reduce some sensitivity. From my understanding, a broken tooth shouldn't hurt unless a nerve is exposed... in which case a root canal is required. I have a lot of dental problems and I can't pay for my treatments up front, so I use CareCredit. It's pretty much a credit card for dental work. But I can make small, affordable payments each month. Additionally, this might help: http://www.amazon.com/Cure-Tooth-Decay-Cavities-Nutrition/dp/1434810607/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1373969399&sr=1-1

The one person not mentioned here is Doctor Weston Price, who found the National Dentist Association, going around the world studying how native diets maintained good dental health vs. first-generation city-folk of those same natives whose oral health went to total shit (see: https://www.amazon.com/Nutrition-Physical-Degeneration-Weston-Price/dp/0916764206).

Another good book introducing the good Doctor is Cure Tooth Decay by Ramiel Nagel (https://www.amazon.com/Cure-Tooth-Decay-Cavities-Nutrition/dp/1434810607/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1495742737&sr=1-1&keywords=cure+tooth+decay)

I see. I have read a book called cure teeth decay and the author's main premise was diet can have a restorative effect on teeth. I am sceptical of this but he has some solid points.

You seem like a person who might benefit from https://www.amazon.com/Cure-Tooth-Decay-Cavities-Nutrition/dp/1434810607

Even if you don't buy the premise, you'll learn something about improving your diet to improve oral health.

If you really hate the dentist so much, make him obsolete.

I'm no dentist, but it almost sounds like you had gum disease this whole time, and that the new chewier foods are irritating the already fragile gum tissue. Check out dental blotting asap.. I'v only been doing it for a week and a half, but already my gums have stopped bleeding, and the gums that were receding are healing. Floss only once per day if you have to -- it's very irritating to gums.

I've actually switched to a paleo-ish diet to heal my tooth issues, and it's doing a wonderful job. Make sure that you eat liver once or twice a week, and get organ meats in, and include good amounts of vitamin c from food. This book explains it better than I can.

I actually prefer to eat my meat in stews, I find that the meat is more tender, and it really never gets stuck in my teeth. If i do have stuff leftover, the blotting removes it for me easily.

Be easy on your gums now. Cook your veg, eat mush if you have to. Your gums will heal, it will just take some good nutrition, a positive attitude, and some good tooth blotting!

Nutrition and avoiding food with antinutrients such as white flour, whole wheat, and other grain based garbage might be the answer according to a few health nerds.
