It would work, but there's a chance it might not work all the time. When I was shopping around for chargers I was looking at generic brands and people were reporting that the chargers were working, but sometimes they would just stop. Unplugging it and plugging it back in would usually fix the problem. I'm not saying they all do this, but it's a possibility. Check out any of these links

They're all essentially the same charger, just sold by different people (you can find them on ebay too)
I've got a similar charger to this one, got off Ebay or something for $30.
My phone charges just fine using a Ringke Fusion. My brother's Nexus 4 charges fine with a thick, dual-layer case (JKase Diablo I think).
I have a wireless charger, something like this and a case this one. It works fine but you have to position the phone correctly. But I decided it's just easier and it takes less space on my desk to plug the phone directly to the USB cable.
I'm waiting to see Pricing on the official Google one, but I'm also looking at this one as an option: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Charger-Google-Nexus-Optimus/dp/B00DY50GIE/
Yeah, I really love it. I paid about $30-$35 for the charger, which is also compatible with my nexus 7, and about $10 for the piece that slips into the back of the GS3.
It's not like plugging a phone in is a really big deal, but despite how little effort it is, I still really appreciate being bale to just put down my phone and then later pick it up.
Plus, it's just really cool.
IMO it's worth it.

The Yes Digi is much more powerful, charges faster and better and easier at detecting when the device is on it. The lugulake I have to put it on the correct spot before the charging light turns on.
If you have a GS3 you'll need to put one of these in the phone (takes up no room, you don't need a new back or case):
