A second vote for Season One for his origin story, then The Oath and Dr. Strange & Dr. Doom: Triumph & Torment. If you can find a copy check out Strange: The Doctor is Out

My favorite Dr. Strange stories are Dr. Strange: The Oath by Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin. And Strange by Mark Waid and Emma Rios. Both are 4 issues long and very good reads with fantastic art.

How to Get Into Comic Books (13:40) by Patrick Willems

Consider your intent/commitment. Think about stories/characters from TV, movies, games, etc. that you already like. Do you seek “good” storytelling or encyclopedic Marvel knowledge? Are you here to collect or read? How much time/resources are available?

Don’t try to read everything—there’s too much. Forget about continuity, universes, and timelines; it's all very confusing, even to creators/fans. Older comics can be an acquired taste for modern audiences, so first appearances/early origins may not be the best starting points. Creative teams change often, characters get re-worked, and origins are re-told (e.g. I never cared for Hawkeye until Matt Fractions’ run).

Pick an interesting character/team and seek their “greatest hits”. Focus on well-received, relatively self-contained, and complete stories. You may encounter the occasional unexplained reference/character/event—just ride along (Wiki if necessary). Remember, there are so many other great characters and publishers to explore, and not all comics are about superheroes.

I'm a big fan of Roger Stern's Strange run (Doctor Strange Vol. 2 #27–75). He also wrote Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment, which is fantastic. The Doctor Strange: The Oath miniseries was very good. He also played a big part in New Avengers.

Really, Strange is one of those rare characters where the really old comics hold up well even today. Don't be afraid to dive right in.

Here are a handful of books that don't really need any backstory; Captain America: Winter Soldier, Iron Man: The Five Nightmares, Thor God of Thunder, Hawkeye, Spider-Man Big Time, Deadpool: Dead Presidents, and Doctor Strange: The Oath. Some of those are part of larger series that you could continue on with if you like, but those should give you a good taste of a variety of Marvel Comics without being too confused

No, Season 1 is essentially his first outings as a fledgling sorcerer. Still very good, but not the origin. It's actually from 2004, here's the link to it http://marvel.com/comics/issue/834/strange_2004_1.
And here's a link to the Oath.

My personal favourite Thor run is by J Michael Straczynski. Here's Volume One, Volume Two and Volume Three

EDIT:
Ultimate Spider-Man is the best place to start with Spidey. The whole run is 100+ issues long but it's, in my opinion, the single greatest Spider-Man run ever written. It tells the Spider-Man mythos in a completely stand-alone story that has a definitive ending.

As far as Doctor Strange goes:
