I think you'd want the pure cane sugar version of Dr Pepper. I'm no chemist, but I don't think HFCS would heat quite as well.
Plus, the real sugar Dr Pepper is fucking delicious. I'm suddenly saddened by how long it's been since I've had one.

The Dublin bottling company lost the rights to bottle and sell Dr Pepper due to reasons (I was told they were selling it out of state in violation of their contract, but I honestly don't know). However, the Dr Pepper company (Snapple?) recognizes the demand and still produces real sugar Dr Pepper. I can usually find it in HEB and Kroger grocery stores in packaging identical to what is shown in the Amazon link. Source: also from Texas, y'all.
It's a lot easier to get them in bottles which I see in the grocery stores all the time, but I did find the canned variety on Amazon.
