Procion MX is the best dye, and will give you a true black. Dylon is also really good, and is less work-intensive. I have dyed a pair of wranglers with Dylon, and they are very black.

I bought two packs of this dye. If you want the white to be darker I'd buy two more. I followed the steps on the back.

I've re-dyed some faded black jeans with Dylon dye. I think it has a brown base rather than a blue base, so it gives a truer black. Oops, had this backwards - RIT has a brown base, Dylon has a blue base which gives a truer black. Since your shirt is 100% cotton, that should work ok? You might want to consider that the thread and the piping might be poly and might absorb the dye oddly.

And post-dying care for dark items.
