If weight isn't a big deal, get something with a 1070. How about this?

u/LonerIM2 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would recommend that you get a 120hz screen to enjoy the gtx 1070 power like in this configuration because it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD 120Hz screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, long battery life, GPU that should be able to handle the games you mentioned on medium to high settings with very good FPs.

I have also been looking in this range, but am opting in for a g-sync 120 Hz unit with a GTX 1070. What I've found so far is below. If you or anyone else wants to jump in, please let me know the your thoughts.

Asus Zephyrus- Zephyrus - $1,999
15.6” Full-HD 120Hz Ultra-portable Gaming Laptop, GTX 1070, Intel Core i7, 256GB PCIe SSD, 16GB DDR4

This is an extremely portable gaming laptop, but has a janky keyboard and a premium price. The battery life is completely abysmal, but that expected for this type of system. This is basically the best (there is a GTX 1080 version for $2,500) laptop for raw power and size, but you have to deal with an interesting case design and pay for the portability with extra $ and worse battery life. However, at 0.7" thick and 4.9 pounds, it's a tough one to beat

Eluktronics Pro-X P650HS-G - $1,750
120Hz 5ms Gamers Edition Laptop PC - Intel i7-7700HQ Quad Core Win 10 Home 8GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 + G-SYNC 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD 16GB DDR4 RAM

My favorite so far. It's about $250 cheaper that the above Zeph, but has a more robust and complete build. The main downside is the unknown brand, potential reliability issues (most review I've read have been good though) and support. Plus it's not as portable as the flagship Asus at 1.13" and 6 pounds. I really like this unit because it has a lot of potential (EXTRA:1x SSD AND 2x HDD ports AND 3x DDR4 Slots) as well as some nice software add-ons. I'd mark this as the best bang for the buck and includes the ability to upgrade in the future

ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VS-DS71 - $1,700
GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Core i7-7700HQ, 16GB DDR4 DRAM, 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 15.6", Black

Very solid laptop from a trusted brand with similar components as the above 2. However, the SSD is only 128GB and looks like its not NVMe. You will not get the same advantages with the other SSDs as it appears to be wired in SATA. This laptop is also most the same size as the Eluktronics at 1.2" and 4.9 pounds, but just doesn't seem as feature packed. However if you love the brand, it's a good step down from the Zeph.

ASUS ROG STRIX GL702VI-WB74 - $1,900
17" Full HD 120Hz Panel, Intel Core i7 2.8GHz GTX 1080 8GB, 16GB DDR4 256GB PCIe SSD 1TB HDD, Black Aluminum Hairline

Basically a beast of a laptop. It has an insane GTX1080 graphics card and just about every other feature you could want in this price range. The main downside is portability at 1.5" and 7.5 pounds. The added size should provide some better cooling and build strength, and a 120Hz G-sync display should look great on a bigger screen.

For you:

1. I'd definitely stick with a GTX 1070 8 GB card as the added ram over the 1060 6GB will help it last. Plus there are some great options in your price range.

2. If you don't have a high-end monitor, I'd highly recommend a g-sync system and look at some 120Hz reviews to see if it's worth it for you

3. Go for an NVMe SSD and a minimum of 16GB of ram

4. Keep the i7-7700HQ processor

After that, there aren't a whole lot of options. There are some good ones from MSI, Dell and Origin, but they all seem to be missing a key item that the above 4 had (G-sync, 120hz display, NVMe SSD, GTX 1070, etc.)

Now with all that said, can someone help me decide between these 4 and/or suggest something I may be missing. I am seriously torn between the above options and am also in need of a laptop

This GIGABYTE Aero 15W-BK4 would be perfect for you. It has a powerful 7th generation i7 quad core processor, 16 GB RAM, fast 512 GB SSD and a powerful gtx 1060 dedicated graphics card. In addition, this laptop has a very good build quality , great display, is very light weighted and though you are not craving battery life, it is one of the few powerful laptops with what can be considered to be a very good battery life. This laptop will run modern AAA titles games very well..I can't say it will run all on max , but will do a very good job. A good thing about this system is that it doesn't look like a gaming laptop and has very good aesthetics.

Also, within your budget , this laptop would be a more powerful option thanks to a more powerful graphic card, but I am not sure if you would consider it to be too bulky.

Thanks for you opinion. I'm quite confused between these two links:

link1

link2

Both are the exact same price (1,749.95) but the first has a 1TB HDD in addition to the SSD but the second link doesn't. Is there something I'm missing?

I would strongly recommend getting this one instead and then buying a Vive. Comes about about the same price and MUCH better performance. https://www.amazon.com/Eluktronics-Pro-X-P650HS-G-Gamers-Laptop/dp/B01MY86Q2F
