> Buy a bunch of lithium AA batteries (lithium ones won't leak) and store the batteries not installed in the radio.

I hate to use prepper-speak like SHTF and Bug Out Bag but for "bad weather" I keep a large stash of several dozen Eveready L91 cells on hand at all times. They're so ridiculously superior to ordinary AA batteries it's not even funny. I can run around half my HTs as well as my KX3 off them if need be. More importantly they last 20 years in storage which is several times longer than any other battery, disposable or rechargeable, in existence. I realize it's more of a /r/showerthoughts kind of thing but every time I buy a pack I think about the very real possibility that the batteries might outlive me (I'm 41).

He means to use these batteries and these converters.

Normally I'd make the case for rechargeable AA cells but those get very expensive for occasional use electric candles.
