The i7 has built in graphics so unless you need to do some graphics intensive things, you shouldn't need it for the tasks you've listed. All it will do is eat up more electricity. What you've listed could be handled by a much weaker CPU.

Same with the Wifi Card, unless you absolutely need it. Since you're remoting into it anyway, hard wire it somewhere.

You could use a lower-end SSD. I've been using a 120GB PNY for over a year now with no problems. Its hard to tell the difference between SSDs unless your moving a lot of things.

You could check out the used market for Xeons.
They're cheap unless you want to buy new.

If you're going to spend that much on a PSU, go for a platinum rated one. I've been using this EVGA 650W.

As others have said you wont need a sound card or DVD drive.

I'm really starting to think the PSU is the culprit. Do they have a 30-day refund policy? I'd see about getting that back, and buying this EVGA P2 650 (platinum) for the same price, or this EVGA G3 650 (gold). I prefer these for quality, and the gold is common choice.

Not a big concern, but just to mention your system is about 450W peak (70% load), that will give you 200W overhead.

Well if you wanted to use most of your budget for a powerful, efficient PSU which is well future-proofed, I'd go with the EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2. $285 on Amazon right now but EVGA's site lists it at $275. 1200W gives plenty of power for potential SLI in the future.

But if you weren't interested in SLI and would rather not spend more than you need to, I'd go for the EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2. 650W is perfect for what you have with a bit of headroom to spare for some overclocking if you like, and saves you a lot of money over the former PSU.

Both are full-modular, 80+ Platinum certified, and backed by a 10-year warranty.

after doing some research of your psu, it seems to be fine... i take back my statement about it burning out. but if you still want to upgrade. i recommend better or best.

Hey, thanks for that! I somehow was unaware that 2.0 slots are forward compatible... So if I were to get a new PSU such as [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-PLATINUM-Crossfire-Warranty/dp/B010HWDPKW), I should be able to just get a GTX 1070, plug it in, and be ready to play? That almost seems to good to be true for a fairly old machine... But I'm not complaining! Would I need more RAM? I seem to recall reading somewhere that your system should have more RAM than your GPU has memory. Not sure if that is true though...

650W would be plenty good for a system like that.

I honestly do not know prices in Europe since I'm in US but do not skimp out on PSU go with well known brands and you also have the choice of Full-modular (all cables disconnect), Semi-Modular (all cables besides Motherboard Main power and sometimes GPU power supply disconnect), and standard with all cables being attached at all times.
