While you're at Lowes you can pick up nuts/bolts, or you can use pop rivets (with backing washers to prevent the plastic from tearing) like I did. We got our trash cans at Walmart so we could size them to our shoulders/back.

I would try these straps out especially since they’re only $12 or so. Then just secure them to the backboard. I personally would just use some eyelets to run the strings through. The rest should be pretty easy. Hope this helps
