The same XFX card is only $155 on Amazon, and comes with free 2-day shipping if you have Amazon Prime. I don't think you get the 3 free games with it, but you save a good $23. Also, I have a copy of Tomb Raider which I've been meaning to give away, so let me know if you want it.

A 7950 with 3GB of memory is also available on Amazon for $265. Here's a version of the 7950 that's selling for $245 on Amazon too (and also has the free 2-day prime shipping/free 7-day shipping for non-Prime members). However, despite being slightly slower, the 7850 is a better bang for your buck than the 7950.

You may also consider the XFX AMD 7870 2GB, which is available on Amazon for $220 (also with the free 2-day/7-day shipping).

If you want to go the nVidia route, the XFX 660 can be had for $199 here, and it is a bit quicker than the 7850. This XFX 650Ti ties the 7850, and costs $170.

Better than all of these cards would be an nVidia GTX 760, which costs $260 on Amazon or $250 on NewEgg, but that might be out of your price range. Still, I'd strongly recommend it if you're considering stepping into the $200+ range. Here's a helpful chart comparing its performance in BF3 to the GTX670, the AMD 7950, etc., and here's a similar chart that compares the 7850 to the 7950 and some others.

If I were you, I'd go for this XFX 660, which I also linked above. At $199.99, you get performance that's quite noticeably better than the 7850, even a bit better than the still-more-expensive AMD 7870 which costs ~$220, and it comes overclocked out of the box with a 980MHz core clock (the stock speed on these cards is 900MHz, I think). It also has 2GB of VRAM rather than the 1GB on the XFX 7850 you mentioned, which is quickly entering the too-little-memory territory as games continue expanding the resolution of their textures, the complexity of scenes, etc. Not to mention that 2GB of video memory will allow deferred antialiasing and higher texture quality settings to have a lower impact on your FPS than cards with only 1GB of memory.

250$ actually isn't unreasonable with DayZ + stream software and Dark Souls 2. If you plan on upgrading in the future stick to nvidia because you can't run crossfire in windowed mode(yet, hopefully.) This would probably be your best bet.

I use a 640 2gb on an overclocked ivy i5, primarily for web \ graphic design \ video editing. CS6, FCPx, etc. I even do a little bit of CS GO gaming on it.

It's been fine, but it's definitely the week spot in the system. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a GTX 760, and just deciding between 2GB and 4GB. ($260 \ 300) From my understanding the extra memory is really only a big deal for gaming across 3+ monitors, or editing really big files, like 4k video. If $50-60 isn't a big deal, go with 4GB, otherwise 2GB should be fine.

This card will run up to four monitors simultaneously, assuming you can run 2DVI, 1HDMI, and 1 Displayport: (2GB) http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GDDR5-2GB-WINDFORCE-GV-N760OC-2GD-REV2-0/dp/B00DGM8B6O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396911690&sr=8-1&keywords=gigabyte+gtx+760

If you dont mind being closed source driver, get nvidia. Their closed source blob is currently far and away the best. If you are wanting to do an open source dirver as soon as possible, go AMD. Their devs are actually putting effort into open source, and will likely reach a fully functional open source driver far sooner than nvidia will.

250$ budget for each:

Nvidia: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00DGM8B6O/
AMD: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00FLMKREQ/

(BTW, with the smile thingy on amazon, you can set it up so that .5% of your purchase goes to FSF. Pretty dinky sum but it all adds up)

I got the Gigabyte 760 for 259 (10$ cheaper than what you listed) I got it about 3 weeks ago, and am having no problems, its running everything I throw at it maxed out.

u/Garenator · 2 pointsr/see

nothing crazy fancy, OC GTX 760, but for single monitor 1080p gaming she can beast most new games.

Most games, this is what Crysis 3 must have been thinking when I first booted up with the new card.

PROCESSOR

Like /u/dweller_12 mentioned, you're going to be picking this up at Microcenter.

For $119, the 8320 is a great processor; it's an 8350 that they set to run at a slightly lower frequency. It'll be able to run any game you throw at it without being a bottleneck.

MOTHERBOARD

This is a great motherboard, period. With AMD motherboards, you have the 990FX, the 990X (only Asus has one, lol), and the 970 "chipsets". Chipsets are just groups of electronic stuff that allow the things inside of your computer to talk to each other.

The 990FX chipset allows for "AMD Crossfire" and "NVIDIA SLI", which are both techologies that allow you to put an extra GPU in your system for performance benefits in games, video editing, and other things that use the GPU intensively.

(I don't usually recommend Crossfire/SLI because most games aren't very good at using a 2nd GPU effectively, and some games won't even use it at all.)

Only 2 970 boards on sale here in the USA are good for enthusiasts; the ASUS M5A97 R2.0 and the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3. Most 970 boards have shoddy power delivery and are not recommended for overclocking ever, but these two boards are actually just slimmed-down versions of Gigabyte's and Asus's 990FX boards, so they actually work really well.

For $49.99 at Microcenter, it's a steal.

MEMORY

8GB of DDR3 memory is all you need for gaming. This was the cheapest I can find..

SSD

At this price point, getting an SSD in the budget was a challenge.

Most people would go with the SSDV300, but Kingston has a plant in China that uses slow parts and a plant in Taiwan that uses fast ones. Both make that drive.

It's playing roulette; I don't recommend it.

The Sandisk drive isn't going to be blazing fast by any means, but it's good enough for a boot drive in a $600 PC.

SSD

The Seagate Barracuda is one of the most recommended drives around here. They've been doing this hard drive thing since before MJ made Thriller.

They know what they're doing.

If you see a Western Digital Caviar Blue for cheaper, you can get that, too. Either way, both drives are good.

GPU

Here's a link to the Warehouse Deal for the GPU.

Getting a 760 at this price point is a STEAL. Not only is it more power-efficient than the R9 280, but this makes it almost $15 cheaper.

Both are great chips.

CASE

You can do a LOT with a Spec-02. It can fit a few radiators, and the cable management on it is pretty solid. I think you're going to like building in it.

If you don't like the aesthetics, though, I can try to help you find something else!

POWER SUPPLY

This isn't a "great" power supply.

What it is is a cheap power supply that is fairly energy efficient and won't blow up.

That's good.

The CX is what we usually recommend to people who are on a tight budget. Corsair has a solid 3-year warranty and doesn't make junk.

MONITOR

This is an IPS display. That's important, because it means that it'll have better color reproduction and wider viewing angles (meaning you can move your head without the colors getting all wonky).

I upgraded to IPS displays about 5 months ago, and I'm never going back.

KEYBOARD

It's a cheap piece of junk, but it's a lot better to wait a few paychecks to get a nice keyboard than it is to have to sacrifice performance on a major system component to squeeze a nice keyboard in.

If you game at 1080p. The GTX 760 is the way to go.
I just picked one up after upgrading from the GTX 560 and I couldn't be happier.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DGM8B6O/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1375257217&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY190

The gigabyte model is the one I would recommend.

u/wolfishacker · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

What would be a good selling price for a Gigabyte GTX 760 WINDFORCE? Specifically This one.

I have been using this for 4 months, and it is in good condition.

u/Something_Syck · 1 pointr/titanfall

everything i've heard/read says that while, technically, there is a slight performance drop, it's so small you might as well not count it. I believe it's like you said, a 1%ish drop. The extra 40 mhz on core and memory clock I have from OC Guru more than make up for it, that's a 4%-5% increase.

Also, I don't know what 760 you're using but I'm using one of the more beast models, the Windforce Rev 2.0 by Gigabyte. Although I do regret not getting the 4GB one now, Titanfall ultra needs 3GB VRAM, Shadow of Mordor needs 4GB+ for ultra textures. Still love it but I wish I had spent the extra $35ish for the extra VRAM.

2x 2GB cards. This is what they are. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DGM8B6O/

u/HotCrockets · 1 pointr/gaming

You don't need more than 8GB of RAM for gaming, and I was using an i5-2500k at 4.6GHz with my GTX 460. Still using the same CPU with my GTX 670, and my framerate doubled, if not more.

I'm not sure how you can say you can max everything, unless you're skimping on AA or you're at 720p:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/519?vs=518

as the 470 can barely compete with a 570, and

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/831?vs=854

a 570 can barely compete with a 760.

At that point, you might as well go with a PS4, as it will look and run a lot smoother, especially for next gen games like BF4.

The 600 series still hasn't gone down in price, and a 760 is basically a 260$ 670:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/830?vs=854

FOR 100$ less than a 670:
http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GDDR5-2GB-WINDFORCE-GV-N760OC-2GD-REV2-0/dp/B00DGM8B6O/

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Dual-Link-Graphics-02G-P4-2670-KR/dp/B007Z3HZIA/

And the 760 is less than 150$ more than a 470 at this point:
http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-PCI-Express-Graphics-012-P3-1470-AR/dp/B003EEMFTI/

Not to mention the increased efficiency and driver support of the newer series cards as well.

A 470 was decent a few years ago. It's okay now. Next gen, I'm not so sure. You can't compare it to a PS4, really.

I modified the top post with the new link, but I cut out the cooler and went with this card. I'm sort of limited to searching on amazon and newegg because this isn't a build for me so I'm attempting to avoid any potential hassles.

u/dlist925 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Not necessary in the slightest for the 760, but if you insist, then here.

u/SeagItaly · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'll look into that. Any other alternatives? What do you think of the GTX?

EDIT: What about this? http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GDDR5-2GB-WINDFORCE-GV-N760OC-2GD-REV2-0/dp/B00DGM8B6O/ref=zg_bs_284822_39

u/TimeTravellerSmith · 1 pointr/buildapc

Depending on the game, they are pretty damn close with the slight edge to the 270x depending on the game. I would imagine with games like BF4 with Mantle that the gap is even wider.

So the real question is, is that $100 worth it for the edge in performance? Probably not. Since you can get a 760 for the same price as the 270x and it'll outperform it (as you can see in the linked review above), I'd pick up one of those, or save the money and get the 660.

u/TheDavenger · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

What about through amazon global?

u/Godranks · -6 pointsr/buildapc
  • Intel i5-3330 (3.0 GHz w/ 3.2 Max Turbo): $182 recommended by Intel

  • Gigabyte GTX 760 2GB WindForce: $159 (used) on Amazon US

  • ASUS P8P67 PRO: $109 on Ebay (couldn't find P67-M price)

  • Kingston 16GB 1600MHz: $91 on Amazon US

  • Inter-Tech SL-700: €34.50 ($36.88) on some random site since I couldn't find it anywhere else

Not including the unspecified SSD and HDD, you're already at $577.88 without shipping. It'd probably be somewhere in the area of $700-750 including the SSD/HDD and shipping.

So if you want to save around $350... The computer will probably play CSGO at 60 fps on low settings. Edit: I was wrong. See the comments below me to see what this rig will actually do fps-wise.
