Prep/precut/premessure ingediants and stage the containers in the order you'll use them.
The culinary term is "Mise en place". If you ever watch a cooking show you can see how they have it all staged like that.
Nothing wrong with those metal cups- I have some I picked up cheaper at Sam's club. I do prefer something like this though with a lid:

Cheap $5 for 20 and with lids i can prepare things earlier and stack them up in the order I'll need them.
Things like different spices that all are added at the same time i tend to premix in the same container.

When cooking it can be easy to misread an amount off a recipe while you trying to manage things. Have everything ready to just pour into a pan/pot and you'll be far more focused on the cooking itself.
