Not $20/5lbs but $20-$25/1Kg which is about 2.2lbs. I use hatchbox and it has worked well. I have the same printer and it was not very difficult to setup and get working. I have had many good prints but also many failed ones. Some filaments work better a different temperatures and it is a bit of trial and error. This is a link to the filament I use. Amazon Link
It's all PLA, and since I'm relatively new to 3D printing, I'm trying out different brands.
Oh and yeah I just got some hatchbox from amazon in yesterday. I got to say I'm a little disappointed that the page said +/- 0.03 but when it arrived it was +/- 0.05. I've heard it was good stuff though. It will let me save my poly elixer and prusament for special occasions.

http://imgur.com/IR5e8nV That's the outcome. Everything I've ever printed with it came out a sort of orange color. It's great PLA, don't get me wrong. But the color is way off from when it prints.
I've actually been pleasantly surprised with the last roll I got. It was a $20 roll of G-Star PLA from amazon. Link
It advertised 1.75mm +-.05mm, it's actually 1.4mm, but it is indeed +-.05mm, which shocked me.
I honestly expected to request a return after a few prints- I mean, c'mon, it's $20/kilo filament- but it's actually turned out to be really nice.
I ordered it Friday, it was delivered the same day (I have Amazon Prime, or rather my wife does) and I spent a few prints dialing it in. pic
Edit: also, FWIW most black dyes tend to have minor adverse affects on filament. As such they tend to be a little more brittle/not adhere as well.
The clicking seems to start and stop when the filament moves, I'd wager that it's cracking in the extruder near the hot end due to the thermal/kinetic stresses involved.
It's likely not a big deal unless you see other issues as well.
So this was PLA printed at 198c (amazon.com/dp/B00J0GO8I0). The print was a "success" in that the catapult works. It loses its springiness after a bit though.
