You'll need something like this if you want to watch TV through your PC

I'm thinking of getting a tv tuner card, because I have a cable outlet in my room but I don't have a tv to move into my room.

The one I'm thinking of getting is this one from Amazon. LINK

Has anybody used this card and liked it? Or can anybody suggest one in the price range of $50 - $75 that they had more success with or had a better experience with?

Oookkk...now I see the light.

This is the card I was looking at. I guess I failed to see the fact that it's single tuner.

I had been looking at the HDHomerun but I think I was just too dumb to realize what it really was, you know? I think, after seeing the refurb option, I will go that route. I kind of hate to be reliant on WMC honestly, but it's either this or spend hundreds of dollars on a Roamio, or Tablo/Simple.tv+externalHD option to get a guide/DVR.

Thanks VERY much for your help!

I'm confused by your question mark, lol

Windows media center which comes built in with windows these days, does the rest. It has a full on guide which allows you to set future recordings and you can watch tv OTA (over the air) (I believe if you want to watch something and record something else you'll need a dual channel tuner)... and personally I prefer WMC to the software most tuners come with.

Good?

I have a friend that lives in an apartment building over and she has more than two channels. I would just assume that there might be some sort of wiring issue somewhere for my connection? I've tried this with two TVs, a converter box, this, and I have swapped out the coaxial cable. I could go for some cable that is super thick but the two channels that do come in look very good so I have no idea what the main issue is.

You already have some good answers, but I just wanted to add that my rabbit ears plug into my computer. The quality is great.

Another option is an internal capture card, but a little pricier.

That way you can throw up an antenna and get OTA HD TV on your PC, too.

TV Tuner or TV Capture Card (something like this, but I can't recommend this specific one or not) for a PC will allow you to watch OTA shows on your computer. Get a recording program and you're set. You already own a PC so you're halfway there.

To add: Roku has a program called Plex. You install a small server on the PC where you recorded the show, and the shows will appear on your Roku almost as soon as they're on your computer. You get it free for 30 days and i think it's $5 to buy it outright after that.

If you have just a standard cable line, yes all you need is a TV Tuner Card.

But, if you have a cable box that the line feeds into and then feeds to your TV you need a Media Center Remote with an IR device. This will allow you to change channels on your computer and it will change the channel on your cable box.

My setup in my dorm has a cable box so these are what I used:

TV Tuner Card

Remote w/ IR Device

Edit: It took me a few tries to get the right IR Device, so let me know if you have questions

Would also recommend a TV tuner card. -$65 Hauppague
