You could start out with a set of Heavy Grips. Not as high quality, but they get the job done. I'm using them as my cheap working grippers until I get better.Based on the CPW rgc averages, the CoC Trainer is going to be right in between thee HG 100 and 150, so the HG set of150, 200, and 250 wouldn't be a bad way to go, and it's only $30. The CoC #1 is going to be between the HG 150 and HG 200.

People can't bench 150 lbs because the form factor of the a barbell doesn't allow a thumb to hold onto it easily. However, people can easily generate 150 lbs of force with one hand. Amazon sells hand grippers with 300 pounds of resistance. Some people can do pushups with their thumbs.

And if you do it with two hands, you only need half the force with each hand. And if you put your body into it, instead of just using your hands, it is a joke. Anybody who lifts weights would destroy a phone with ease. The act of holding a barbell easily requires the hands to generate a lot of force over an long period of time. Bending a phone only requires a short burst or a short impulse (i.e. instead of holding a barbell in a standing position for 30 seconds, you only have to hold for 1 second).
