it's obscure, didn't last for that long.

There is a book by multi-generational Oregonian William Sullivan (of Sullivan hiking books!) https://www.amazon.com/Hiking-Oregons-History-Stories-Historic/dp/0961815272

the book has some stories about people going up Hood, about a bear or a badger that wandered into the lookout, etc.

At the summit esp if you climb up Cooper Spur you can find old heavy duty cabling (braided iron(steel??) about 2in diameter kinda littered hanging off the north side of the mountain, embedded in dirt and ice/snow.

I don't know if that's part of an old guide anchoring system when Cooper Spur was the main way up the mountain or if that's the leftovers from anchoring the summit cupola.

I have another Oregon guide book from a local shop here. It covers all regions of OR, with extra chapters and detail on Portland area.
