I love the Sondheim productions from the 80s

>Sunday in the Park with George

>Into the Woods

>Sweeney Todd

But I'm also pretty fond of the Donny Osmond
> Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat

which was produced for recording, and not just a filmed stage production, but still manages to feel very theatrical.

For a bit of variety, I'll throw in
> Pippin

> Kiss Me Kate

I don't remember if Kiss Me Kate was a theatrical production or a sound-stage, I think I've seen a couple of versions of that, but it's really good.

The Great Performances recordings of productions are always fantastic, but sometimes hard to track down.

The original Broadway production of Into the Woods is great. Some of Sondheim's best music. Do yourself a favor and watch the original Broadway production http://www.amazon.com/Into-Woods-Bernadette-Peters/dp/B00001PE59 (Wish they'd put it back on Instant Netflix)

I think Into the Woods is one of his most accessible shows. The classic stories are easy to follow and the twists are engaging! Plus, you could watch the PBS or the Hollywood versions. ☺️

Are you talking about this one?

I think Disney did a good job with the first half but once the bad things started happening after "happily ever after" it turned into a rushed mess. Also the one big change they did where someone who was supposed to die, didn't die...I think really took away from it. There is an official filmed version of the musical with the OBC cast, maybe check that out: http://www.amazon.com/Into-Woods-Bernadette-Peters/dp/B00001PE59

[THE DEATH SPOILERS](#s "The witch just seemed whiney in the last half, like Rupunzel wasn't even dead so why did she hate Jack so much and go all suicidal? Meryl Streep was great but I wasn't feeling it. ")
