heat mat plus a dome helps

Use one of those with a lower powered florescent light above it. They are pre-moistened. Pop the seeds into the little holes and wait about a week. If the seeds are good they WILL start popping out the tops just fine. Very hard to mess this up. Use that with a dome over the top and a heating pad underneath like this picture:

Very good success rate doing this method, good luck!

Oh, whoops, let's see...[here we go,] (http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-CK64060-House-Heat-Included/dp/B0006VK68E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422236338&sr=8-2&keywords=germination+station&pebp=1422236343103&peasin=B0006VK68E) this is the grow center with heat mat and 7" dome.

Nope, you can grow flowers and herbs in the same growing center, no problem. The only thing you'd want to differentiate is whether the different things you're growing prefer different humidity. If you have one plant that likes high humidity and one that prefers dryer, you'll want to have some smaller containers so you can put a lid on one and not the other.

I actually plant most of my indoor stuff in sphagnum moss. It's great for carnivorous plants, and since I have to buy it in blocks of three cubic feet, I just use it for everything. This is specifically moss WITHOUT any kind of additives -- i.e., no Miracle Gro or other fertilizer. Carnivorous plants die in fertilizer; they're accustomed to nutrient-poor soil.

For plants that I'm going to transfer outdoors I use a mix of about 70% soil that I bring in from wherever they're going to be planted and 30% moss or potting soil. That way they won't be "confined" when I transfer them outside.

BTW, I also use rainwater for everything. Again, CVs require either distilled or naturally collected water. I think my mantises and non-CV plants also do better with rainwater. So, I have rain barrels around the house, anywhere that there's a downspout from the gutters. One good rainstorm here and I can fill up about 200 gallons of water. :D

Some things you can buy:

Full kit, no gel. I personally don't like the light directly on top of the dome. You can't raise/lower if needed.

Hothouse and mat. This is what I use, along with this light.

Rooting gel

Rapid rooter starting pods. I use this, but there are definitely cheaper alternatives out there.

Don't give up!! Read up, do some research, and keep trying to grow. It's a fulfilling hobby, well worth the effort.

Sorry for the poor quality on the second picture, but it's Jiffy brand.

Also planning on putting them in this box http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0006VK68E?pc_redir=1395950852&robot_redir=1
