Sorry I'll try to clear it up. This is the door sensor: http://www.gocontrol.com/detail.php?productId=14 it is a simple device that connects to my home automation system via z-wave. inside is a simple reed switch that is monitored for conductivity and usually latched on and off by a magnet mounted to a door or window.

The Channel 1&2 are outputs used for Arm and Disarm from the GDRR.

I'll be using it to trigger an my system to arm when latched and disarm when unlatched.

Everything is 12V and the relays draw less than 150 milliamps.

GDRR: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0071EYS9M/

Relays I have not purchased yet.

In summary my goal is to use my garage door opener in my vehicle to open and close a circuit to fool a sensor into thinking a door is open or closed to have it turn on other systems that enable my other sensors. I feel this would function in the real world but my concern is if I should use other components.

They sell a universal receiver made for gates that had dry contacts that you can tie into a custom setup. One sec for link

No, they homelink buttons don't require a subscription. They are just part of a standardized RF control system in the car. They can be "taught" to control many things that operation on RF, but mostly people just use their garage door with them. They won't natively control anything smartthings though, although you could get something like this and use homelink to trigger dry contacts, which would trigger zwave or zigbee switches.

Updating my own post because I think I figured out a way.

They make garage door universal receivers (intended for driveway gates), which are basically N.O. relays that work with garage door openers. Example I can then connect that relay to a Z-Wave switch module, such as this, and that will allow the garage door relays to communicate via Z-wave with my home automation system. I haven't tried it yet, but seems feasible.

Had the same unit and same problem. We had a garage door guy out and he replaced the signal receiver with something like [this.] (http://www.amazon.com/Liftmaster-Universal-Garage-Opener-Receiver/dp/B0071EYS9M/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1418933490&sr=1-1&keywords=garage+door+reciever) It only cost around $100 installed, but if your handy it looked pretty simple. Good luck

Is there usually any soldering required? I'm completely ignorant on stuff like this. It doesn't appear to be needed. Also need to purchase a power adapter. This is what I'm looking at:

Never done it, but all you would need is a compatible garage door/gate receiver, something link this https://www.amazon.com/LiftMaster-850LM-Universal-Garage-Receiver/dp/B0071EYS9M

Would use that to trigger what every automation you wanted, depending on your automation controller, of course.
