Mostly because for the regular one many people seemed to complain that the regular trimmer pulled hairs and didn't give it a clean shave, so this one came with both to try. I had lowish expectations since the reviews were mixed. It did take a bit to get used to.
If you can handle waxing and don't have sensitive skin I would do it instead. I would rather go to a place and pay for waxing but I broke out really bad and got a bad rash the one time I tried:(

Heh, I bought a Mangroomer Pro a couple years ago, which is basically an electric shaver with a maneuvering arm on it. Let's you get everywhere pretty easily.
As far as I know, that's the only thing out there that is "quick and painless" that you can do yourself. It's not too terribly expensive either. Takes about 10-15 minutes to clean up the back. I use a Norelco Bodygroom for everywhere else.
My hair is coarse, thick, and dark so one of these days I'd love to have it all just lasered off tbh.
