I would never advise someone to only get one ferret. It isn’t really fair to the ferret, they’re meant to be with others.
Also the size of the cage is fine but cleaning it with those doors is going to be a huge pain in the ass. The double doors on this cage make cleaning it so much easier

The wire floring is the main concern with that cage. There is a slight chance that a rat could get stuck/break a toe/get bumble-foot. I've had a similar cage for years with 15 some-odd rats over its lifetime, none have been hurt by the wire floor.

That being said, there are MUCH better cages out there. The feret nation cage is the sub-reddit-gold-standard. The cage has french doors that are the entire front of the cage. The shelving/ladders are hard plastic that is safe for rodents, and the base model comes with a stand to keep it off the floor and space to store food/bedding. It will absolutely be the next cage I buy.

Its a bit pricey (I'll look for a link) so if the cage you've shown us is in your price range then you have my go-ahead to get it. I have a similar one amd it works great.

Edit: found it! ~$130 for the single-story cage, ~$200 for the double.

Thanks for the reply, the tray actually sits on top of the wire mesh. It’s similar to this:

So it’s just that black tray at the bottom. I guess I should be putting the bedding over that then?

This cage is cheaper for a reason. I urge anyone who has this cage to please, please, please install pans (if they don't make them, just improvise) onto the levels so the ferrets are not walking on wires. Walking on these wires their whole lives will mess up their feet and spines. I am currently witnessing the effects of wire cages on an elderly rat who is having a bad time with his spine and is dragging his hind legs from being raised on wire grates. His feet constantly get stuck in the wires and this type of design is just not good for the health of any animal.

I have and highly recommend the MidWest Ferret Nation cage. The single unit will be enough for two ferrets and is worth the money. The double unit will provide that much more room and will ultimately make happier ferrets. Ferrets love to run around, climb, generally be silly and extra room to play is never a bad thing if you can afford it.

The pans also make cleaning that much easier. Poop and food do not get flung all over the place as I imagine it would in a wire cage. Cleaning up after ferrets is hard enough. Why make it more difficult?

Believe me, this really is the better option. Especially when you're already spending near that amount on a cage. Your ferrets will thank you.
